The Role
The Power BI Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence and data visualisation solutions using Microsoft Power BI. You will work within an Agile team to transform data into meaningful dashboards and reports, develop efficient data models and DAX measures, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver accurate, scalable, and user-friendly analytics solutions that meet client requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI reports, dashboards, and data visualisations.
- Build efficient semantic and data models using appropriate relationships, schemas, calculated columns, measures, and hierarchies.
- Develop and optimise DAX measures and calculations to support business reporting and analytical requirements.
- Use Power Query to extract, cleanse, transform, and prepare data for reporting and analysis.
- Connect Power BI to a range of data sources and collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure reliable data availability.
- Monitor and optimise report, model, and query performance to deliver responsive and cost-effective solutions.
- Implement Power BI security practices, including workspace access and row-level security where required.
- Support Power BI deployment, versioning, workspace management, scheduled refreshes, and governance practices.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, data engineers, developers, and product managers to understand requirements and translate them into practical analytics solutions.
- Document Power BI solutions and identify opportunities to improve reporting usability, data quality, automation, and analytics capabilities.
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of experience as a Power BI Developer, BI Developer, or Data Analyst with strong Power BI expertise.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI , including:
- Power BI Desktop and Service
- DAX
- Power Query
- Data visualisation and dashboard development
- Strong understanding of data modelling concepts, including relationships, schemas, calculated columns, measures, and hierarchies.
- Experience connecting Power BI to multiple data sources and working with large or complex datasets.
- Hands-on experience optimising Power BI reports, data models, and DAX performance.
- Understanding of Power BI security, workspace management, deployment, and governance.
- Experience working with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into effective reporting solutions.
Project & Delivery Skills
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
- Familiarity with Git, Azure DevOps, Jira (or equivalent), and modern development workflows.
- Comfortable working remotely with distributed teams while remaining accountable for outcomes.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capability.
- Proactive, self-directed, and delivery-focused.
- Strong attention to detail with a pragmatic approach under pressure.
- Able to explain technical and analytical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Enjoys working in collaborative, outcome-oriented teams.
Bonus (Nice to Have)
- Experience working with Microsoft Fabric, Azure, or Databricks .
- Experience with SQL and relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
- Exposure to:
- Microsoft Fabric semantic models
- Data governance and security
- Power BI administration
- Performance optimisation for enterprise-scale reporting
- Experience in consulting or multi-client delivery environments.
- Prior experience working with Australian or international clients.
