Job description

Responsible for the treatment of patients who have health conditions that limit their ability to move and perform everyday activities, assists patients in restoring physical function and mobility and promote overall wellness.

Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Competence
  • Identifies patient correctly using two identifiers (full name with middle name and date of birth) before any procedure.
  • Obtains comprehensive data from the patient’s health history and physical examination.
  • Met the patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with Physiatrist.
  • Helps patient accomplish treatment plan.
  • Administers physical therapy treatments based on Physiatrist’s prescription.
  • Evaluates effects of physical therapy treatments , teaches patient on the proper donning and doffing of prosthesis and orthosis.
  • During and immediately after procedure, identifies sudden changes in the patient’s health condition, implements age‑appropriate interventions and reports to the Physician promptly.
  • Safely transports the patient to/from nursing unit or ancillary units.
  • Demonstrates effective infection control practices conscientiously (ex.: hand hygiene, waste disposal, use of personal protective equipment). Adheres strictly to standards in handling hazardous materials.
  • Responds to and provide appropriate action for emergent situations. Demonstrates understanding of role in hospital emergencies, fire and disaster.
Professional, Ethical and Legal Practice
  • Delivers care with the highest level of confidentiality, consistent with the Patient’s Rights (i.e. Right to privacy, right to confidentiality, right to refuse treatment) .
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Acts as the preceptor of students and new personnel in the unit, as directed by the Supervisor.
Patient Education
  • Informs patient or family member of treatment schedule.
  • Provides health care instructions to patients and their families based on identified learning needs.
  • Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommending and/or providing assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow‑up programs.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Acts as receptionist in the unit, demonstrating courtesy and customer service standards.
  • Share information and coordinate treatment plan with Physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Endorses all completed and contemplated procedures and all pertinent data of the patient to Nurses in the general units.
Management of Resources
  • Ensures operation of unit equipment by ensuring preventive maintenance requirements are done, by following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions and immediate calling for repairs.
  • Generates revenues by completing charge slips, timely rendering of services in the Hospital Information systems; forwarding to patient billing.
  • Actively participates and assist in quality improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned to or required of the job by the immediate superior.
Educational requirements
