Overview
A Pharmacy Assistant provides essential support to the pharmacist in the day-to-day operations of a pharmacy. This role involves a variety of tasks, from assisting with medication dispensing and inventory management to providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Medication Dispensing
- Assist the pharmacist in accurately filling prescriptions.
- Count, measure, and package medications according to prescriptions.
- Prepare labels for medication containers.
- Maintain accurate records of all medications dispensed.
Inventory Management
- Receive and store incoming medications and supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels and place orders for replenishment.
- Check expiration dates of medications and remove expired stock.
- Maintain a clean and organized pharmacy environment.
Customer Service
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Answer phone calls and provide information regarding prescriptions and pharmacy services.
- Collect payments and process transactions accurately.
- Address customer inquiries and resolve any issues promptly.
Administrative Support
- Maintain patient records and update relevant information.
- Assist with insurance claims processing.
- Operate pharmacy software systems.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a pharmacy setting preferred, but not always required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of pharmacy terminology and procedures (preferred).
- Completion of a pharmacy technician training program (preferred).
