Job summary

Job description

The Role

a. Technical Responsibilities

• -Performs registration of patient samples, handling telephone inquiries by clients, printing and faxing of patient results.
• -Performs and verifies or approves results for a variety of laboratory tests and procedures in any of the assigned laboratory discipline(s): i. Blood Transfusion Service ii. General Chemistry iii. Special Chemistry iv. Haematology and Clinical Microscopy v. Coagulation vi. Microbiology vii. Molecular viii. Point-of-Care Testing Performs and reviews daily or weekly QC results and discuss any QC issues with section lead for corrective actions to take.
• -Performs daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of instruments used in the laboratory and to report to section lead of instruments not functioning properly.
• -Performs 6-monthly validation of minor equipment such as thermometer, pipette, timer and blood box.
• -Participates and performs any inter-laboratory quality assurance (IQA), external quality assurance (EQA) and proficiency testing programs that the laboratory is subscribed to.

b. Administrative Responsibilities

• -Performs weekly or bi-weekly or monthly inventory stock check of laboratory consumables and reagents via RMS and submits to the section lead.
• -Performs annual reading of applicable laboratory SOPs. Participates in internal or external continuing medical education (CME) and other professional development programs.
• -Participates in the annual quality improvement projects in the laboratory.
• -Check and complies all applicable safety regulations in the laboratory and reports non-compliances to laboratory safety officers for corrective actions

Key Accountabilities

• a. EQA Participation and Performance - Participation and passing rate in the laboratory EQA program (CAP, RCPA, NPT). Annual Error Correction Rate (ECR) - Number of result corrections done annually. Notification of Critical Result annual compliance rate. - Number of failed notifications annually. Laboratory Test Turnaround Time (TAT) - Annual compliance performance rate of the laboratory discipline assigned to.
• b. RMS Stock Take Audit Report - Stock variance in the 6-monthly inventory checks. Continuing Medical Education (CME) - Number of attended internal, external seminars, courses, trainings and talks annually. Quality Improvement Project (QIP) - Number of participated and completed QIP annually. Riskman Submission - Timely submission of incidents within 24 hours.

Qualifications & Experience

• -Recognized Diploma or Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology, or Polytechnic -Diploma or equivalent.
• -Entry-level candidate from the polytechnic is eligible - Possess essential knowledge in various laboratory disciplines. (is a plus)
