Mechanical Support Manager

Job Level: Managerial | Business Unit: 1RE

As Mechanical Support Manager, you will coordinate and manage a team of engineers and technicians to ensure efficient and effective mechanical operations support across various and growing renewable energy portfolios. Your expertise will contribute to the successful execution of projects, optimization of mechanical engineering systems and processes, and the improvement of reliability, life‑cycle cost, and overall profitability of the assigned power plant facilities.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Lead and manage annual and long‑term strategic mechanical objectives.
  • Develop engineering solutions and technical designs for mechanical assets.
  • Conduct mechanical design, installation assessment, review, and evaluation.
  • Ensure Mechanical Engineering plans and specifications align with company standards.
  • Lead continuous‑improvement projects, research, and feasibility studies related to mechanical assets.
  • Manage financial, technical, and operational risk management plans and mitigations for mechanical assets.
  • Review and approve the development of organizational guidelines, procedures, and standards for mechanical assets.
  • Steer mechanical committee discussions and provide technical assistance (grid concerns, inter‑BU collaboration).
  • Lead emergency response plans and insurance claims related to mechanical operations.
  • Keep up to date with relevant regulations, codes, and legislation.
  • Initiate job‑knowledge updates through trainings, seminars, exposures, and workshops.
  • Review, manage, and approve project and work‑order schedules and timelines.
  • Coordinate annual planning with O&M to ensure availability of spare turbine components (design and budget).
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced operational efficiency within the mechanical department.
  • Oversee fabrication and machine‑shop operations, ensuring timely and accurate production of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for hydro‑ and wind‑power projects (installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs).
  • Manage tribology‑related activities, including lubrication analysis, material selection, and equipment reliability improvement.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to fabrication, power generation, tribology, and maintenance.
  • Develop and implement maintenance programs, schedules, and procedures to maximize equipment uptime and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and manage Key Performance Indicators of the Department.
  • Manage asset condition monitoring and non‑destructive testing execution as per schedule.
  • Review dimensional testing of in‑house and outsourced fabricated and repaired items.
  • Approve quality assurance and verification of mechanical installation reports.
  • Approve in‑house machinery and testing equipment and tools review, upgrade, and calibration.
  • Approve mechanical asset inspections, predictive analysis, and assessment.
  • Approve recommended corrective and preventive maintenance plans for mechanical assets as input to the Life Cycle Management Plan.
  • Implement environmental health and safety programs.
  • Evaluate and verify employee performance.
  • Conduct internal and external quality audits and compile detailed reports.
  • Lead team development and competency plans and implementation.
  • Implement company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance to IMS standards, and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Handle incidents, confidentiality, and conflict resolution with team members.
To Succeed in this Role, we need someone who:
  • Reviews and approves the quality of all fabricated and rehabilitated items.
  • Coordinates with Operations and Maintenance on mechanical component performance.
  • Monitors overall work order and project progress, committee discussions, and progress reporting.
  • Manages billings, contracts, budget allocation, and costing reports.
  • Reviews and approves contractor and supplier selection.
  • Establishes and approves contractor and supplier communication and follow‑ups.
  • Formulates RACI, team structure, and task distribution.
  • Reviews and approves material specification and selection approval.
  • Formulates and manages timeline and milestone monitoring, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Manages project turnover records and related reports.
  • Initiates standards and sets procedures implementation (engineering, health, safety, environment, and social compliance).
  • Provides assistance for mechanical installation and dismantling activities.
  • Manages risk and financial objectives, maintaining cost recovery and profit targets.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
What You Will Need:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Registered Mechanical Engineer, preferably a Professional Mechanical Engineer.
  • 5‑10 years of experience in renewable energy technologies, operations, and maintenance (hydro, wind, solar, geothermal).
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of project management and vendor management experience.
  • Experience in asset management and reliability‑centered maintenance.

Technical / Functional Skills:

  • Practical application and experience in handling wind gearboxes, vibrating and oil‑rotating machines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and metallurgy.
  • Experience with fabrication, machine shop operations, and tribology.
  • Background in supplier quality engineering, vendor management, or supply chain management within an industrial or power generation environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO Management Systems, Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proficient in standard computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, data‑analysis tools).
