Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team. The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for the full lifecycle of mechanical component and system design, from initial concept through to production. This role involves utilizing advanced CAD software to create detailed 2D and 3D models, performing engineering analyses, selecting appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet all specified requirements for functionality, performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and a passion for developing robust and efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities of a Mechanical Designer

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems from concept to production, utilizing CAD software using Solidworks

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D models and engineering drawings, ensuring adherence to industry standards, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and manufacturing specifications.

  • Perform calculations and simulations to analyze stress, deformation, thermal characteristics, and fluid dynamics, ensuring product integrity and performance.

  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes based on design requirements, cost-effectiveness, and environmental considerations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless integration and successful product realization.

  • Conduct design reviews and incorporate feedback from leaders to refine designs and address potential issues.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including Bill of Materials (BOMs), test procedures, and design change requests.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during prototyping, testing, and production phases.

  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in mechanical design and engineering.

Qualifications for a Mechanical Designer

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Proven experience (e.g., 3+ years) in mechanical design, preferably in a relevant industry.

  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks. AutoCAD is a plus

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and machine design.

  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and creating detailed manufacturing drawings.

  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, casting, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication) is a definite plus.

  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and simulations (e.g., FEA) to validate designs.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities for collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
