Dyson has a strong and influential Quality and Product Safety business function. The Product Safety team is categorized into two primary streams: one dedicated to managing and driving safety in new projects under development, and the other focused on addressing safety-related issues in the field. This role is to strengthen the project safety team by leading safety requirements agreement and overseeing their successful implementation throughout the product development process.

About the role

Reporting to the Product Safety Manager, this role involves bringing proven safety experience to Dyson for exciting new products in development. The primary accountabilities include:

  1. Leading the process of defining and establishing safety requirements across Research, Design, and Development, and managing the evaluation of test results to demonstrate safety compliance.
  2. Collaborating with RDD engineers to ensure adherence to safety deliverables throughout the project lifecycle up to manufacturing launch.
  3. Implementing and validating mitigations for safety risks, ensuring their verification.
  4. Including safety considerations in product development decisions and monitoring throughout the project.
  5. Promoting best practices for safety risk assessments in development and manufacturing.
  6. Identifying Critical To Safety (CTS) processes and advocating best practices.
  7. Managing multiple projects concurrently, ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
  8. Serving as the product safety representative and coordinating actions with the Product Safety Committee.
  9. Designing and enhancing solutions proactively to address technical challenges.
  10. Sharing safety knowledge and mentoring engineers in methodologies and standards.
  11. Identifying technical risks and influencing engineering teams to resolve issues.

About you

  • Degree in engineering or science, with postgraduate experience in safety or reliability roles.
  • Robust background in safety engineering, with experience in safety cases and reports.
  • Proficient in safety planning, FTA, HAZID/HAZOP, and safety assessments.
  • Capable of reviewing work and maintaining formal safety documentation.
  • Adaptable, results-driven, and capable of managing priorities across projects.
  • Excellent communicator, able to simplify complex technical information.
  • Collaborative, empathetic, and a team-oriented approach.
  • Self-motivated, inspiring, and fostering a safety culture.
