Job summary

SGS is seeking a Lab Support/Storage Assistant for our Philippines facility in Zambales. The role focuses on storing and disposing samples, maintaining clean lab spaces, and supporting inventory of lab supplies while ensuring compliance with QHSEE policies.

Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures are essential. The position involves logging storage and disposal activities, maintaining accurate records, and supporting ongoing lab operations under supervision.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Store samples in designated areas and log them in the sample storage logbook.
• Dispose samples promptly and log the date of disposal.
• Maintain sample storage and disposal logs and ensure logs are signed.
• Keep the laboratory clean and orderly at all times.
• Assist in inventory of gases, glassware and laboratory supplies.
• Ensure compliance with Quality, Health and Safety, Environment and Energy (QHSEE) policies.

Primary Responsibilities

• In-charge of the storage and disposal of samples, maintains retained sample records and keeping the laboratory clean.
• In control of supplies management.

Specific Responsibilities

• Stores samples in the designated areas upon completion of the analyses, logs them on sample storage logbook and makes sure that storage trays are properly labeled.
• Promptly disposes samples that are due for disposal, notes date of disposal and signs on the sample disposal logbook.
• Maintains sample storage and disposal / logbooks. Updates logbooks each time samples are stored or each time samples that are due for disposal are taken out of storage and ensures that logbooks are signed accordingly by Laboratory JOE or his/her designate.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in the laboratory at all times.
• Handles cleaning of laboratory glassware.
• Assists in the inventory of gases, glassware, laboratory supplies.
• Ensures compliance to the Group and national policies including but not limited to the maintenance of the Quality, Health and Safety, Environment and Energy System
• Operating to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Code of Integrity.
• Performs other related duties as may be assigned to achieve respective section’s goals or for own personal, or professional training, education or development as programmed by the immediate supervisor.
• Complies with the Quality, Health and Safety, Environment and Energy (QHSEE) policies and supporting objectives including, but not limited to:
  • Demonstrates strong obligation to SGS QHSEE policies, procedures and work instructions by actively participating in meetings, projects and events, completes required training, intervenes in unsafe situations, refuses unsafe work, and complies fully with all applicable laws and regulations related to HSEE
  • Perform appropriately and immediately to emergency situations and assists other staff members in maintaining readiness to respond to emergencies within the workplace
  • Disposes or directs the disposal of waste generated as a part of daily work performed in a safe manner and in compliance with the disposal regulations and requirements, and in accordance with SGS Environmental Management System requirements
  • Reports all incidents, including near misses and hazards, that may affect the achievement of QHSEE objectives in accordance with SGS Incident Reporting and Management requirements
  • Efficiently uses all equipment, including safety equipment, and company owned property in the manner intended and reports any damaged / lost equipment to immediate superior
  • Maintains a safe and tidy worksite according to the organization’s 5S program and guidelines
  • Maintains awareness of the safety and health related hazards and environmental aspects and proposes action plans to control the risks to immediate superior or QHSEE Coordinators
  • Actively participates in incident investigations and risk assessments as deemed necessary by SGS management
  • Fulfills the requirements needed in the success of the QHSEE Management System
  • Recognizes the potential consequences of not following the established policies, procedures, and guidelines, including not fulfilling the organization’s compliance obligations.
