Job summary

Sound Decisions is seeking a junior software engineer who wants to understand how software actually works, not just how to make it compile. You will work with TypeScript, Node.js, and a senior team in a structured learning environment to develop debugging skills and gain real production scope early on.

You will learn to reason about data flow, contribute to full-stack projects, and practice responsible use of AI tools with code reviews and documentation.

Qualifications

• Fundamentals of software development: data structures, complexity, state, and request flow.
• Familiarity with TypeScript and full-stack web development or willingness to learn.
• Knowledge of Git, PRs, merging, branching and code review.
• Experience with AI coding tools in personal/open-source projects and a cautious approach to trust the output.
• Ability to work independently on defined tasks with good judgment.
• Experience building backend or full-stack apps with Node.js and TypeScript is relevant; Scala/FP experience is nice-to-have.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to software development across multiple projects and languages.
• Maintain existing systems and implement new features in a full-stack capacity.
• Translate product and business requirements into practical software solutions.
• Help prototype new products and integrations with reference implementations.
• Write unit, functional, and automated tests under guidance from senior engineers.
• Use AI tools responsibly to accelerate learning, coding, and documentation.
• Participate in Git-based code reviews and apply feedback constructively.
• Follow agile processes and contribute to planning and delivery.
• Communicate risks early and collaborate across engineering and product.
