A healthcare provider is seeking a Medical Coder to review inpatient medical records and assign ICD-10 codes. The candidate should have at least 2 years of coding experience and an active coding certification. Familiarity with EMR Systems and strong medical knowledge are essential. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviewed inpatient medical records and assigned accurate ICD-10-CM and PCS codes for diagnoses and procedures.
Assigned and sequenced codes accurately based on medical record documentation.
Assigned POA (Present on Admission) indicators correctly.
Had a thorough understanding and application of medical necessity, DRGs, APGs, and APRs for processing claims.
Adhered to coding clinics and guidelines, and queried physicians for clarification as needed.
Checked on the account status regularly if kept on Hold and followed up with respective leaders when needed.
Had knowledge of 3M coding and abstracting software, PCI, and Meditech systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
At least 2 years of experience in Inpatient Medical Coding.
Nursing or any medical allied course graduate.
Must have an active coding certification (CCS/CIC/CPC).
Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
Familiarity with ICD-10 CM & PCS codes and procedures.
Able to work independently.
Strong familiarity with using EMR Systems such as Epic.
Knowledgeable in basic coding guidelines, Root Operation, and Principal Guidelines.
