Overview
The Hardware Store Helper provides assistance to customers, maintains inventory, and ensures the store is clean and organized. This role involves providing excellent customer service, stocking shelves, assisting in product selection, and helping with various tasks to support the smooth operation of the hardware store.
Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Greet customers and provide assistance with product inquiries.
- Help customers locate items in the store, provide product recommendations, and answer questions about hardware products.
- Ensure that customers have a positive shopping experience by being attentive and knowledgeable.
- Stocking & Inventory: Assist in stocking shelves and ensuring products are displayed correctly and neatly.
- Maintain inventory levels and assist with reordering products as necessary.
- Ensure that products are properly labeled, tagged, and priced.
- Store Maintenance: Keep the store clean and organized, including aisles, shelves, and product displays.
- Assist in organizing the back stock area to ensure inventory is accessible.
- Maintain safety standards by ensuring that aisles are clear and the store environment is safe for both customers and employees.
- Cash Register & Sales Assistance: Assist customers at the checkout counter by scanning items and processing payments.
- Handle returns, exchanges, and store credits as per store policies.
- Product Knowledge: Learn about the store's products, including tools, paint, hardware, plumbing, electrical supplies, and other items to offer accurate advice and recommendations.
- Stay updated on promotions, discounts, and sales events.
Qualifications
- Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of hardware products and tools is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-friendly attitude.
- Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to a certain weight limit as per company policy).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to [specific weight, e.g., 50 pounds] and perform physical tasks such as bending and lifting.
- Must be able to handle long hours on foot and occasionally assist with heavy lifting.
