Job description

Job Responsibilities

Plans, prepares, and conducts geological fieldwork for international and local geothermal greenfield prospects at various exploration stages—reconnaissance, semi-detailed, and detailed—while ensuring adherence to budget, timelines, and quality standards. Collects and analyzes data on lithologies, structural features such as faults, hydrothermal alteration, thermal manifestations, and geomorphology to develop geological models that encompass heat sources, flow regimes, stress and permeability, and volcano-tectonic evolution. Each fieldwork campaign culminates in reports and presentations delivered to management. Integrates geological field assessments with geochemical, geophysical, and reservoir engineering data to produce conceptual models, assess risks, develop mitigation strategies, and provide data-driven recommendations on project viability. Conducts technical due diligence through comprehensive geological reviews and studies to support Business Development in evaluating mergers, acquisitions, and new geothermal prospects. Provides geological expertise to EDC’s operating fields, including expansion and make-up sectors, through fieldwork, multidisciplinary data integration, Leapfrog model updates and development, and the application of GIS and data science for improved well targeting. Delivers inputs to financial models, such as development plans for advanced growth projects. Generates exploration well designs and geological prognoses and performs wellsite geology during drilling. Performs hydrogeological assessments by investigating the interplay between groundwater, surface water, and geothermal fluids, constrained by geological features such as lithologies and structures. Conducts geohazard assessments, including seismotectonic hazard analysis, ground deformation studies, and volcano monitoring, to safeguard existing and future critical infrastructure from geological hazards. Leads transformation initiatives and projects by integrating advanced technologies such as remote sensing, machine learning/artificial intelligence, numerical-based stress analysis, and geohazard modeling to enhance geological data collection and interpretation. Manages administrative tasks, including stakeholder engagement with local government units (LGUs) and regulatory boards, budget preparation, training participation, and ensuring overall workplace safety.

Job Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering is required, while a postgraduate diploma or certification is an advantage. Relevant professional licensure is necessary. Preferably with experience in geothermal exploration or development, along with strong project management skills such as Agile methodology. Proficiency in ArcGIS/QGIS, Leapfrog Geothermal, and Python programming is an advantage.

Who We Are

Energy Development Corporation is a geothermal energy industry pioneer and the recognized world leader in wet steam field technology. In the Philippines, EDC is the largest vertically integrated geothermal company, delivering 1,475MW of clean and renewable energy. We continue to diversify our renewable energy portfolio through investments in hydropower, solar power and wind energy projects in the Philippines. With almost 40 years of geothermal mastery, EDC is set to deliver the benefits of sustainable geothermal development to communities around the world as it ventures into Latin America and Indonesia. EDC is part of the First Gen Corporation (“First Gen”) Group, which has the largest portfolio of power plants using clean and renewable technology in the Philippines. First Gen’s 16 power generation plants have a combined capacity of 2,763MW. First Gen has one of the cleanest power portfolios in the country with its entire power generation portfolio utilizing fuels such as geothermal steam, water, and natural gas. Wind power complements EDC’s existing power generation assets including the baseload geothermal plants, as well as, the Pantabangan hydroelectric plant, which serves as a peaking plant. EDC has become the leading geothermal energy producer in the Philippines through the successful development and operation of numerous geothermal energy projects. Since 1983, the Company has successfully developed, financed, built, and operated seven geothermal steamfields in five geothermal contract areas, containing both wet and dry steam. These steamfields currently supply geothermal steam to geothermal power plants with an aggregate installed capacity of 1,130 MW. In addition, the Company currently, directly and indirectly, owns and operates eleven geothermal power plants with a total installed capacity of 1,181 MW. EDC, through its indirect wholly owned subsidiary Green Core Geothermal, Inc., operates the 192.5MW Palinpinon and 112.5MW Tongonan geothermal power plants. Bacman Geothermal, Inc., another indirect wholly owned subsidiary of EDC, operates the 130MW Bacman geothermal power plant. The Company believes this track record has enabled it to develop the expertise needed to assess the feasibility of future acquisitions and greenfield projects, ensure the safe and efficient construction of power plants, and provide for efficient power plant operations.
