Job Description
A furniture carpenter constructs, repairs, and restores high-quality wooden furniture and fixtures. Key responsibilities include reading blueprints, precise measuring, operating woodworking machinery, selecting materials, and applying finishes (sanding, staining, varnishing). They focus on craftsmanship to create cabinets, tables, and bespoke furniture while adhering to safety standards.
Core Furniture Carpenter Duties
- Designing and crafting high-quality furniture, custom cabinetry, tables, and cabinets from blueprints or sketches.
- Selecting the best wood types, veneers, and fasteners for strength, aesthetic, and budget.
- Measuring, sawing, shaping, and assembling wood pieces with tight tolerances using tools like table saws, CNC machines, and hand tools.
- Sanding, staining, painting, varnishing, and polishing furniture to achieve a durable, high-quality finish.
- Inspecting damaged pieces, repairing joints, refinishing surfaces, and restoring antiques to original condition.
- Installing finished furniture, such as shelving, cabinets, or built-in units on-site.
Key Skills
