Role Overview
A Fleet and Operations Head is responsible for overseeing the entire fleet of vehicles and ensuring smooth operations. This role requires a combination of strategic thinking, operational expertise, and strong leadership skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in fleet management, with proven expertise in the logistics or trucking industry.
- At least 3 years of people management experience, with demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams.
- Strong knowledge of fleet operations, maintenance planning, fuel management, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent analytical, budgeting, and cost-control skills.
- Proficient in route planning, scheduling systems, and fleet management software.
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make strategic decisions in fast-paced environments.
Duties & Responsibilities
Fleet Management
- Vehicle Acquisition and Disposal: Overseeing the procurement of new vehicles, including budgeting, vendor selection, and contract negotiation. Managing the disposal of old or surplus vehicles.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Implementing and managing a comprehensive vehicle maintenance program, including preventive maintenance schedules, repair and replacement of parts, and tracking service history.
- Fuel Management: Monitoring fuel consumption, optimizing fuel efficiency, and implementing fuel-saving strategies.
- Insurance and Licensing: Ensuring all vehicles are adequately insured and licensed, and managing claims and renewals.
Operations Management
- Driver Management: Hiring, training, and managing drivers, including performance evaluation, disciplinary actions, and safety training.
- Route Planning and Optimization: Developing efficient routes to minimize travel time and fuel consumption.
- Dispatch and Scheduling: Assigning vehicles and drivers to specific tasks and ensuring timely completion of deliveries or pickups.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
Budgeting and Cost Control
- Budget Development: Developing and managing the fleet and operations budget, including forecasting costs and revenue.
- Cost Optimization: Identifying and implementing cost-saving measures, such as negotiating better deals with vendors or improving operational efficiency.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- KPI Tracking: Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), such as fuel consumption, vehicle downtime, and accident rates.
- Reporting: Generating regular reports on fleet performance, operational metrics, and financial performance.
