Qualifications

• Valid teaching credential with English authorization.
• Experience teaching English in junior high preferred.
• Ability to adapt English materials to the needs of 7th–8th graders.

Responsibilities

• Teaches English language, literature and composition, and reading to 7th and 8th grade pupils.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the course of study.
• Adapts English material and methods to develop assignments that guide and challenge pupils.
• Determines instructional materials designed to achieve instructional goals and behavioral objectives. Selects among available books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and maturity levels of pupils.
• Provides individual and small group instruction when possible in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
• Evaluates each pupil's development in course being taught and prepares report cards.
• Encourages pupils to think independently and to express original ideas.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment during regular class sessions or field trips, assuming appropriate administrative, financial and community support.
• Maintains professional competence through participation in self-selected professional growth activities.
• Developes lesson plans and appropriate instructional aides.
• May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals, if applicable.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
