A leading healthcare provider is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform laboratory procedures and assist in various technical tasks. Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s in Medical Technology and a PRC license. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment, conducting tests, and ensuring patient care standards. JOB TITLE: MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST
AREA: All Laboratory Units (Shifting)
JOB OBJECTIVE
To perform all routine laboratory procedures under immediate supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
PHLEBOTOMY
1. Appearance, dress and decorum conform to laboratory code.
2. Greets patients courteously by introducing self and asking patient’s complete name and date of birth.
3. Provides Patient education especially pertaining requirements before any procedure is done.
4. Performs standard phlebotomy technique.
OTHER TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
1. Performs pre-validation of all specimens.
2. Performs various laboratory procedures and presents results for evaluation.
3. Responsible for all the collection of blood specimen.
4. Assist the Section Heads in the preparation of reagent and laboratory procedure.
5. Assist the Section Heads and other Medical Technologist in the operation of laboratory equipment.
6. Assist the Section Heads and other Medical technologist in the formulation, computation and calibration of laboratory quality and tests procedures.
7. Process laboratory tests accurately from receiving to the transcribing and documentation of results.
8. Signs out results on critical shifts P.M or night shifts.
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT
1. Performs HIV Testing as Proficient HIV Analyst
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS
1. Accepts and carries out endorsement with knowledge and understanding.
2. Retentive of laboratory factual details.
3. Prompt in answering the calls of emergency.
4. Functions as front line in the absence of Medical Laboratory Clerk particularly during day shifts.
DATA MANAGEMENT
1. Validates patient’s requests and inquiries.
2. Encodes patient’s profile, posts and charges all requested tests/procedures.
3. Transcribes laboratory results.
RECORD MANAGEMENT
1. Documents all laboratory results performed.
2. Assist in maintaining the period of retention for materials and records.
3. Assist in daily, biweekly, monthly and statistical reports of laboratory procedures.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
1. Keeps updated information and skills through participation in seminars and workshops and other continuing education programs.
COLLABORATION
1. Holds on consistently to section, departmental and administrative policies.
2. Maintains good rapport and cooperative working relationship with members of the laboratory and other departments.
3. Does other related work as may be directed by the chief medical technologist from time to time.
4. Participates, implements and documents departmental meetings, projects and programs.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
1. Uses tact in personal interactions with customer and staff.
2. Discreet with patient’s information.
3. Accurate and precise in the transcription and communication of departmental results, reports and figures out which may result to the misdiagnosis of patient’s pathological impressions.
ORGANIZING /SAFETY
1. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the area.
2. Maintains the availability of safety equipment, materials which comply with laboratory safety.
3. Identifies laboratory safety risks and minimizes danger to self and to co-workers.
4. Abides with Infection Control policies and standards.
DIRECT REPORTS
Reports directly to the Assistant Section Head; Section Head; Laboratory Supervisor, Clinical Division and Chief Medical Technologist for all referrals regarding administrative concerns and to the Department Chair for all clinical referrals.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Graduate of Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology
LICENSURE
Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) License
WORK EXPERIENCE
One (1) year experience in a clinical laboratory is desirable but not required.
