Overview
A cashier is responsible for handling customer transactions, ensuring accurate payments, and providing excellent customer service in retail settings, supermarkets, restaurants, or any business that involves customer purchases. The primary role involves operating a cash register, processing transactions, and sometimes handling returns, exchanges, and customer inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Processing Transactions: Scan items, process payments, and issue receipts to customers.
- Handling Money: Accept cash, credit, and debit card payments, and provide accurate change.
- Customer Service: Greet customers, assist with inquiries, and address concerns politely and efficiently.
- Balancing the Cash Drawer: Ensure the register has the correct amount of money by counting and reconciling at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Managing Returns and Exchanges: Follow company policies for returns, exchanges, or refunds.
- Maintaining Cleanliness: Keep the register area clean and organized.
- Promoting Sales: Inform customers about promotions, discounts, or store loyalty programs.
- Processing Coupons and Discounts: Verify the validity of coupons and apply discounts accurately.

Qualifications
