  • 2+ years of customer-facing written communications with empathy and clarity
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data manipulation and pivot tables
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to understand complex processes and systems

Job description

The Business Process Analyst guides Optum business divisions by analyzing and reporting on pay-for performance incentive outcomes across a global employee population. This role operates in a high volume, highly regulated environment and is responsible for ensuring accurate, data-driven insights alongside reliable process execution.

The Business Process Analyst evaluates process performance, identifies data trends and root causes of issues, and partners with stakeholders to implement improvements that enhance accuracy, timelines, and the overall employee and leader experience. This role combines data analysis, reporting, and analytical problem-solving with a strong understanding of process execution, requiring attention to detail, independent thinking, and the ability to translate data into actionable insights.

Additional success traits include solid critical thinking skills, perseverance and resourcefulness, a sound process for tracking and completing deliverables, and comfort with ambiguity in a high growth environment, and the technical aptitude to learn new systems quickly, validate outputs, and take ownership of data quality and outcomes.

Position Responsibilities
Process Analysis & Improvement
  • Analyze incentive compensation processes to identify inefficiencies, defects, and opportunities for standardization
  • Perform root cause analysis on data issues, payment discrepancies, and recurring errors * Recommend and help shape implementation of process improvements to reduce rework and improve quality
  • Monitor process performance and identify patterns or trends requiring escalation or resolution
  • Partner with developers, consultants, and stakeholders to analyze processes, validate solutions, and guide implementation through enablement of scalable improvements
Data Validation & Insight Generation
  • Validate monthly and quarterly incentive data to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Develop and deliver reporting that highlights trends, anomalies, and key performance insights
  • Identify risks and patterns within large data sets and translate findings into actionable recommendations
  • Contribute to the development of tools, controls, and workflows that enable scalable, high-quality process execution
Stakeholder Partnership & Issue Resolution
  • Partner with program consultants and business stakeholders to resolve data and process issues
  • Manage inquiries by identifying underlying issues and driving resolution
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Appropriately escalat
Process Execution & Operational Support
  • Execute core incentive processes with a high degree of accuracy, accountability, and timeliness
  • Maintain documentation, templates, and process standards to support consistency and scalability
  • Support onboarding, training, and change-related activities for process updates
  • Contribute to audit, compliance, and remediation efforts as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 Years HR or Compensation experience
  • Experience analyzing data sets to identify trends, anomalies, and root causes
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into insights
  • Demonstrated ability to manage work independently and track deliverables accurately
  • 2+ years of customer-facing written communications skills including empathy and clarity * Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., data manipulation, pivot tables, analysis)
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to understand and navigate complex processes and systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with incentive compensation processes or Incentive Compensation Management (ICM) tools (e.g., Varicent)
  • Experience with reporting, dashboards, or data visualization tools
  • Experience with process mapping, workflow documentation, or continuous improvement concepts (e.g., Lean)
  • Experience working in a high-volume, data-driven, or highly regulated environment
  • Ability to independently learn and navigate complex systems, validate outputs, and self-audit work for accuracy
