Job Description:
About the job Business Analyst
Where raw data becomes the decision.
Hi! We're Smartsourcing, and we're hiring a full-time, onsite Business Analyst (Data & Reporting) to turn a rich, growing set of business data into clear insight and decision-ready reporting — building and running the group's Power BI reporting capability.
Where? JEG Tower, Archbishop Reyes, Corner Acacia St., Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City, 6000 Cebu
About The Role
As a Business Analyst (Data & Reporting), you'll design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards from the ground up — data model and Power Query through to DAX measures — spanning finance, the rental book, broker origination, and asset performance. You'll build out and independently run the group's management reporting and deal intelligence, safeguard data quality before figures reach decision-makers, and document the logic so reporting stays repeatable and auditable. It's a proactive, self-directed role: you'll take a commercial question and run with it, surfacing new reporting on your own initiative rather than waiting for a brief.
Key Responsibilities
Management Reporting & Dashboard Development
- Design, build, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports from scratch, giving management a live, drill-down view of KPIs and group performance.
- Develop and maintain data models, Power Query transformations, and DAX measures for accurate, performant reporting.
- Build out designs and wireframes into group consolidation reporting, the monthly board pack, and deal-performance analytics, with every figure reconciling back to source.
- Streamline the monthly reporting cycle, reducing manual touchpoints and turnaround time.
Data Analysis & Commercial Insight
- Interrogate company metrics — rental book value, LVR, repossession and arrears rates, payment friction, and broker/BDM performance — and translate them into clear commercial narrative for non-finance stakeholders.
- Proactively identify trends, patterns, and insights, proposing new reporting rather than waiting for a brief.
- Run ad-hoc analysis to answer specific commercial questions from the executive team (e.g. pricing, disposal channels, cohort performance, unit economics).
Data Extraction, SQL & Requirements Gathering
- Use SQL to query and manipulate data from source systems to support comprehensive reporting.
- Extract, transform, and load data from external sources into the reporting environment.
- Gather reporting requirements from stakeholders, clarifying what's needed and how outputs should look before build.
Data Quality, Integrity & Governance
- Monitor data quality and integrity, catching gaps and errors before numbers reach decision-makers.
- Troubleshoot data issues with system owners and drive them to resolution.
- Apply consistent, approved data definitions and treatment across reporting datasets.
Process Mapping, Documentation & Automation
- Document data definitions, sources, and logic so reporting is repeatable and auditable.
- Create process maps, flowcharts, and supporting documentation for reporting and data workflows.
- Identify and automate manual, repetitive reporting tasks.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Delivery
- Work hand-in-hand with the Power BI Analyst on report and dashboard projects, and collaborate with the Sales team and other functions on data initiatives.
- Communicate directly and professionally with senior stakeholders, translating technical concepts for a non-technical leadership audience.
- Prioritise and deliver across concurrent requests in a fast-paced environment, flagging blockers early.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Readiness and Digital Enablement
- Maintain baseline AI literacy and use approved AI tools responsibly, in line with company policies, data privacy, information security, and client confidentiality obligations.
- Apply sound judgment by validating outputs and avoiding overreliance, ensuring accuracy and accountability in all work delivered.
- Participate in AI readiness trainings and proactively identify opportunities for process improvement through automation and responsible AI integration.
What You'll Need To Succeed Experience
- Proven experience in a data, reporting, or business analyst role, including building Power BI dashboards from scratch and running reporting independently
- Experience gathering reporting requirements from stakeholders and turning messy source data into reliable reporting
- Exposure to financial services, asset finance, leasing, or book-based lending advantageous
- Exposure to multi-entity group reporting/consolidation or credit-risk/portfolio-performance metrics advantageous
Skills & Behaviours
- Proactive and self-directed — able to take a commercial question and run with it
- Sharp analytical instincts, with an eye for trends and data-quality issues before figures reach decision-makers
- Able to translate technical concepts for a non-technical leadership audience
- Clear written and verbal communication for requirements gathering, presenting insight, and escalating issues
- Sound awareness of data quality, integrity, confidentiality, and responsible handling of financial and commercial information
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, or a related field preferred Training or certification in Power BI, SQL, data analytics, or Microsoft Excel preferred but not required
Tools
- Power BI (intermediate or better) — required, including building dashboards from scratch, creating DAX measures, and using Power Query
- SQL for querying and manipulating data — required
- Advanced Microsoft Excel advantageous
- Project-management tools (e.g. Monday.com, ClickUp), ERP/database exposure, and knowledge of ETL processes and tools advantageous
