Job summary

Hunt St in the Philippines is seeking a seasoned bookkeeper to join a growing remote team serving Australian small businesses. You’ll manage daily bookkeeping, payroll, and client communications as an independent contractor, with a fully remote setup.

Experience with Australian GST, STP, and cloud software (Xero/MYOB/QuickBooks Online) is essential. Work aligns with AU business hours, servicing clients in healthcare, construction and e-commerce.

Qualifications

• Must have 2–3+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience.
• Solid grasp of Australian GST, including GST-free items.
• Experience processing weekly payroll; STP and superannuation a plus.
• Proficiency with cloud accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks Online.
• Excellent written and spoken English; able to explain bookkeeping clearly.
• Reliable home office with stable internet.

Responsibilities

• Process transactions and reconcile accounts (bank, credit card, loan).
• Code transactions for Australian GST, including GST-free items.
• Process weekly payroll and meet deadlines (per AU time).
• Prepare BAS and IAS workpapers for review.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable; supplier bills and invoicing.
• Communicate with clients to clarify bookkeeping requirements.
• Prepare month-end and quarter-end reports; maintain client records.
• Document processes and client notes to support team collaboration.

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Role Overview: Join a growing bookkeeping team managing a portfolio of Australian small business clients. You’ll maintain accurate financial records, process payroll on time, and communicate directly with clients to keep their accounts running smoothly. Key Responsibilities:

• Process transactions and reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts accurately.
• Code transactions correctly for Australian GST, including GST-free items.
• Process weekly payroll accurately and meet deadlines, including Monday payroll before 2:00 PM AEST.
• Prepare BAS and IAS workpapers for review by the accounting team.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including supplier bills, invoices, and debtor follow-ups.
• Communicate with clients to request information and clarify bookkeeping requirements.
• Prepare month-end and quarter-end reports and maintain organised client records.
• Document processes and client notes to support team collaboration.
• Track time accurately against client jobs for billing purposes.

Requirements

• Must have at least 2–3+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience.
• A solid grasp of Australian GST, including how to research and confirm whether an item is GST or GST-free.
• Experience processing weekly payroll and meeting strict deadlines; STP and superannuation experience is an advantage.
• Proficiency in cloud accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks Online.
• Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to explain bookkeeping matters to clients in a friendly, easy-to-understand way.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and time management.
• Reliable home office setup with stable internet and backup power and connectivity.
• Experience working with Australian accounting firms or Australian small business clients.
• Experience managing multiple client accounts, particularly in healthcare, construction, or e-commerce.
• Familiarity with Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), PAYG, and Australian payroll awards.
