Qualifications

• 2–3+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience.
• Strong knowledge of Australian GST rules.
• Experience processing weekly payroll and STP is advantageous.
• Proficient in cloud accounting software (Xero/MYOB/QBO).
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Process transactions and reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts accurately.
• Code transactions for Australian GST, including GST-free items.
• Process weekly payroll accurately and meet deadlines, STP and superannuation experience is a plus.
• Prepare BAS and IAS workpapers for review by the accounting team.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including supplier bills and invoices.
• Communicate with clients to request information and clarify bookkeeping requirements.
• Prepare month-end and quarter-end reports and maintain client records.
• Document processes and client notes to support team collaboration.
• Track time accurately against client jobs for billing purposes.

Job Role: Bookkeeper

Compensation range: $1,500 AUD - $2,000 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Role Overview:

Join a growing bookkeeping team managing a portfolio of Australian small business clients. You’ll maintain accurate financial records, process payroll on time, and communicate directly with clients to keep their accounts running smoothly. Key Responsibilities:

• Process transactions and reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts accurately.
• Code transactions correctly for Australian GST, including GST-free items.
• Process weekly payroll accurately and meet deadlines, including Monday payroll before 2:00 PM AEST.
• Prepare BAS and IAS workpapers for review by the accounting team.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including supplier bills, invoices, and debtor follow-ups.
• Communicate with clients to request information and clarify bookkeeping requirements.
• Prepare month-end and quarter-end reports and maintain organised client records.
• Document processes and client notes to support team collaboration.
• Track time accurately against client jobs for billing purposes.

• Must have at least 2–3+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience.
• A solid grasp of Australian GST, including how to research and confirm whether an item is GST or GST-free.
• Experience processing weekly payroll and meeting strict deadlines; STP and superannuation experience is an advantage.
• Proficiency in cloud accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks Online.
• Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to explain bookkeeping matters to clients in a friendly, easy-to-understand way.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and time management.
• Reliable home office setup with stable internet and backup power and connectivity.
• Experience working with Australian accounting firms or Australian small business clients.
• Experience managing multiple client accounts, particularly in healthcare, construction, or e-commerce.
• Familiarity with Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), PAYG, and Australian payroll awards.
