Job summary

Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer (Service Lead) to bridge engineering and stakeholders, lead service delivery, and mentor junior engineers.

You will design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs, drive microservices, and ensure timely customer issue resolution with strong testing and DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience with backend services and distributed systems is expected.
• Strong knowledge of Java and RESTful API design.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain complex RESTful APIs using Java 21 and Spring Boot framework.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following SOLID principles, Object-Oriented Design, and GRASP patterns.
• Implement and maintain microservices architecture with proper separation of concerns.
• Write comprehensive unit tests using JUnit and Mockito, and integration tests using Testcontainers.
• Work with MongoDB for data persistence, including complex queries and data modeling.
• Use Git for version control, following established branching strategies and best practices.
• Lead code reviews, providing constructive feedback and enforcing code quality standards.
• Implement and optimize event-driven architecture using Apache Kafka for asynchronous communication.
• Apply Test-Driven Development practices and advocate for testing best practices.
• Document APIs using Swagger and technical decisions using Confluence.
• Debug and resolve complex production issues independently.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.

We are seeking an experienced Backend Engineer (Service Lead) with at least five years of experience to join our engineering team. In this role, you will combine your technical expertise with service leadership responsibilities, focusing on handling customer issues, scheduling, and risk management. You will serve as a bridge between the engineering team and stakeholders while ensuring smooth service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Duties & Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain complex RESTful APIs using Java 21 and Spring Boot framework

Service Lead Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for customer issues and escalations
• Manage and prioritize customer-reported issues, ensuring timely resolution
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to address customer concerns
• Collaborate with global counterparts on service integration and compatibility issues
• Develop and maintain service schedules and delivery timelines
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks proactively
• Communicate service status, risks, and issues to stakeholders regularly
• Facilitate communication between engineering team and customers/stakeholders
• Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met
• Lead incident response and post-incident reviews
• Track and report on service metrics and KPIs
• Participate in capacity planning and resource allocation discussions
• Manage service-related documentation and knowledge base

Work Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Skills & Competencies Required

• Strong proficiency in Java programming language (Java 21 preferred)
• Extensive experience with Spring Boot framework and Spring Data
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design principles and best practices
• Strong experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
• Advanced proficiency with Git version control and branching strategies
• Extensive experience with unit testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito) and integration testing (Testcontainers)
• Deep understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems concepts
• Strong knowledge of SOLID principles, Object-Oriented Design, and GRASP patterns
• Experience with event-driven architecture using Apache Kafka or similar messaging systems
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience with customer-facing roles or stakeholder management
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing demands
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Experience with incident management and problem resolution

Preferred

• Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
• Knowledge of AWS services (EKS, S3)
• Experience with OpenSearch or other search technologies
• Familiarity with logging and observability tools (Kibana, Grafana)
• Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code concepts
• Experience with ArgoCD for GitOps deployments
• Full-stack experience
• Previous service lead or team lead experience
