Job summary

Cognite is seeking a Software Engineer with 3–6 years of experience to join our engineering team. You will build scalable backend systems and data platforms that process large volumes of industrial data, working on distributed systems, data processing, cloud infrastructure, and backend services.

You will collaborate with Product Managers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance across cloud-native platforms.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in software engineering, backend development, or distributed systems.
• Strong programming experience in Java, Scala, or Python, with solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and OOP.
• Hands-on experience with backend services, microservices, REST APIs, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Good understanding of distributed systems, scalability, performance, and reliability concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices for high-volume data workloads.
• Build and improve distributed data pipelines using Spark, Kafka, or Flink.
• Develop reliable, high-performance APIs and backend services with a focus on scalability, availability, and maintainability.
• Work with large datasets and optimize data processing, storage, and retrieval workflows.
• Contribute to system design and architecture discussions, making thoughtful technical decisions for scalability and reliability.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions to improve system performance and reliability.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
