Job summary

Avaloq in Switzerland provides wealth management technology and services; we are seeking a Software Test Engineer to design, build, and maintain automated tests for the Avaloq suite, including ABR/S. The role bridges proprietary Avaloq language concepts with modern automation in an Agile setting.

You will lead test architecture, mentor the team, drive CI/CD integration with Jenkins and GitHub, and write PowerShell and PL/SQL scripts.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software testing experience in enterprise software.

Job Description

As a Software Test Engineer for Avaloq, you will design, develop, and maintain robust automated tests for the Avaloq suite of products, in particular, ABR/S—Avaloq’s flagship product powering our SaaS and BPaaS offerings. Because core Avaloq products are built using Avaloq’s proprietary programming language, this role requires bridging domain-specific software concepts with modern automated testing practices.

In this technical leadership role, you will champion test architecture best practices—applying core software engineering principles to test automation tools and frameworks—while operating as a proactive self-starter and collaborative team player. You will drive Avaloq's test automation strategy within an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban), leveraging tools such as Jira, Zephyr, Jenkins, GitHub, PowerShell, and PL/SQL alongside Tricentis Tosca and AI-assisted testing solutions.

Your Key Tasks

• Test Architecture & Strategy: Design, build, and maintain scalable, modular test automation architectures, applying established software engineering principles (e.g., modularity, reusability, clean code, and design patterns) to test automation tools.
• Technical Leadership & Agile Execution: Serve as a technical authority and mentor for the testing team, establishing test automation standards, driving code quality/framework best practices, and facilitating sprint execution within Scrum and Kanban frameworks using Jira and Zephyr.
• CI/CD & DevOps Integration: Integrate test automation execution into continuous integration and deployment pipelines using Jenkins and maintain test scripts and framework repositories in GitHub.
• Automation & Scripting: Write utility scripts in PowerShell and craft PL/SQL queries to validate backend database state, setup test data, and automate support tasks.
• ABR/S SaaS & BPaaS Test Automation: Create, maintain, and execute automated test cases for the ABR/S baseline—supporting Avaloq's SaaS and BPaaS delivery model—using Tricentis Tosca and approved automation frameworks.
• Proprietary & Multi-Layer System Testing: Translate complex business workflows across applications written in Avaloq’s proprietary language, REST APIs, and Web/Smart Client applications into scalable automated test assets.
• Model-Based Automation: Develop and maintain reusable test automation components based on model-based testing principles.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as an energetic self-starter and team player, collaborating closely with business analysts, developers, and product teams to ensure comprehensive coverage and quality assurance.
• Defect Analysis & Root-Cause Insight: Investigate, analyze, and report defects identified through automated and manual testing activities with detailed root-cause insights.
• AI Integration & Innovation: Leverage and evaluate emerging AI-assisted testing tools, generative AI solutions, and automation accelerators to accelerate test design, maintenance, and defect analysis.
• Continuous Framework Ownership: Support the migration and expansion of automated testing capabilities using Tricentis Tosca, taking direct ownership of the automated testing framework and subject matter expertise on Avaloq banking modules.

Qualifications

Technical & Architectural Expertise

• 5+ years of software testing experience in enterprise software applications.
• Proven track record in a technical leadership role, driving test strategy, setting architectural standards, and mentoring team members.
• Keen eye for test architecture, with demonstrated expertise in applying standard software engineering principles (modularity, abstraction, reusability, clean architecture) to test automation tools.
• Practical experience managing test assets and agile delivery using Jira, Zephyr, and Agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban).
• Hands‑on experience integrating test suites with Jenkins CI/CD pipelines and version control using GitHub.
• Scripting capabilities in PowerShell for test execution automation and environment orchestration.
• Strong database querying skills using PL/SQL, with knowledge of Oracle database administration preferred.
• Ability or adaptability to work with software written in proprietary programming languages (such as Avaloq’s proprietary language) alongside standard software concepts.
• Understanding of enterprise application delivery, with exposure to SaaS / BPaaS architectures and the ABR/S product baseline being a strong advantage.
• Hands‑on experience in test automation with Tricentis Tosca is highly preferred.
• Solid understanding of model-based and codeless test automation concepts.
• Solid foundation in object-oriented programming concepts (OOP), design patterns, and relational databases.
• Practical experience developing and executing automated tests across web, API, desktop, and enterprise applications.
• Strong knowledge of Functional, Regression, Integration, and End-to-End Testing methodologies.
• Hands‑on experience with API testing, service validation, and continuous testing practices.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software testing, generative AI tools, intelligent test automation solutions, or test automation accelerators is an advantage.
• Experience within banking, financial services, or wealth management platforms is an advantage.
