Job description

Attorney Editor - Practical Law Editorial

Practical Law Attorney Editors review, maintain, and update Practical Law content to ensure alignment with current law and jurisprudence. Attorney Editors apply strong legal comprehension, analytical judgment, and attention to detail when reviewing editorial materials and making updates.

The role is highly editorial and detail-oriented, with a primary focus on maintaining and enhancing existing Practical Law resources rather than drafting original content.

About The Role
  • Legal Analysis, Editing, and Writing: Attorney Editors review, maintain, and update Practical Law content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with in-house style guides, current law, and recent developments. Attorney Editors apply strong legal comprehension, analytical judgment, and attention to detail when reviewing editorial materials and making updates or comments.
  • Editorial Responsibility: Members of this team must adhere to editorial publishing schedules and quality standards, verifying their own work and that of others for accuracy, Style Guide adherence, completeness, and clear presentation. This includes performing detailed editorial review work such as maintaining Practical law documents, checking and validating case and statute citation links, and correcting punctuation, style, grammar, and formatting to ensure citations function correctly within Practical Law resources. Attorney Editors are also expected to maintain and develop their legal knowledge and editorial skills to stay current on relevant legal developments.
  • Individual and Leadership Development: As part of a collaborative, global team, Attorney Editors participate in team meetings and the employee evaluation process, including self-evaluation and giving and receiving feedback. Attorney Editors are expected to develop and maintain strong knowledge of Practical Law, and be familiar with Thomson Reuters products, and relevant competitor offerings.
  • Self-direction: Attorney Editors must effectively prioritize their own work, understand how individual roles contribute to overall production, and manage responsibilities independently. They are expected to demonstrate proficiency in company-specific systems and tools required to perform editorial and production tasks.
  • Engagement with Editorial AI Efforts: Attorney Editors will engage with AI and large language model (LLM) initiatives, including experimentation, prompt development, and evaluation of AI-generated outputs to support content quality and workflow efficiency.
About You
  • Have a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Demonstrate strong legal comprehension, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Have established copyediting and proofreading skills, including the ability to review punctuation, grammar, formatting, and citations with precision.
  • Are comfortable using advanced editing tools in Microsoft Word.
  • Are proficient in or able to quickly develop proficiency with Westlaw and Practical Law, including maintaining and updating resource content.
  • Can quickly comprehend legal content and apply style guides, editorial standards, and revisions accurately.
  • Can pivot efficiently to address high-priority updates while maintaining quality
  • Are a collaborative team member who works effectively in a global, cross-functional environment.
  • Are a clear, proactive communicator who can convey ideas and feedback effectively in both written and verbal form to stakeholders within and outside Thomson Reuters worldwide.
