Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking an Attorney Editor to distill complex procedural law into clear, actionable content for customers. You will analyze laws and deadlines across jurisdictions, draft and maintain rules sets for calendaring, and ensure high editorial quality.

The role emphasizes strong legal research, meticulous attention to detail, and collaboration with global teams. A JD and US-litigation familiarity are preferred, with a hybrid work model supporting work-life balance.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school or equivalent.
  • Experience with US litigation and related procedures is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to interpret, organize, and communicate complex legal materials.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze procedural laws, statutes, court rules, and orders across jurisdictions to identify deadlines and provide legal interpretation.
  • Draft, review, and maintain hierarchical rules sets for legal calendaring and ensure accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain legal knowledge, write event narratives, calculations, and citations for deadlines and requirements.

Job description

Are you a legal professional with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for precision in procedural law? Do you thrive on the challenge of distilling complex legal information into clear, actionable insights? Join our team as an Attorney Editor and leverage your expertise to shape the legal landscape for our customers.

About The Role
  • Analyze procedural laws, statutes, court rules, administrative orders and standing orders at multiple jurisdictional levels to identify and isolate docketable deadlines and to provide legal interpretation through analysis and research to develop and review content for customers
  • Drafts, reviews, and maintains hierarchical rules sets used for legal calendaring in various jurisdictions and subject matters, and adheres to editorial publishing schedules and quality standards as required for accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain and develop legal knowledge and skills as needed to complete your work and to stay current on legal trends and developments. This includes writing clear, consistent, and comprehensive event narratives, calculations, and legal citations for deadlines and procedural requirements.
  • Documents decisions regarding inclusion/exclusion of deadlines, and maintains detailed records of sources and rationale
  • Demonstrate competence on company-specific systems, including customized editorial systems, periodic review of released rules sets to incorporate amendments, modifications, and new legal and procedural requirements.
  • Adhere to editorial publishing schedules and quality standards as required for accuracy and completeness
About You
  • Have a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school or other equivalent, relevant legal training.
  • Experience with US litigation, including familiarity with related procedures and deadlines preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills, using sound judgment, logic, and discretion to collaborate effectively with global teammates and solve complex problems.
  • Self-starter with aptitude for legal research and analysis; have the ability to interpret, analyze, organize, and communicate complex legal materials
  • Are comfortable with personal computers and familiar with word processing and online applications including the Microsoft 365 suite of apps and Adobe apps.
  • Are a strong, proactive, and assertive communicator who can speak and write clearly and effectively with all contacts, both in and outside Thomson Reuters, across the globe.
