Job summary

Synthesia, the leading AI video platform, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the AppSec team. You will guide threat modelling, security tooling, and risk decisions, while shaping AppSec strategy in a fast-growing AI environment.

You’ll engage deeply with engineering, security, and product to embed secure-by-default practices across the SDLC and scale security alongside a product organisation expanding with AI-enabled development.

Qualifications

• Strong communicator capable of operating across staff engineers to leadership.
• Strong engineering background in application security with hands-on experience in threat modelling, secure design review, (AI-)SAST/SCA tooling, vulnerability management, and security automation.
• Proficient in Python and JavaScript; experience with AWS and/or GCP and GitHub Actions.
• Demonstrated people management experience: hiring, growing, and performance-managing security engineers.
• Led or contributed to an AppSec programme in a fast-growing SaaS or AI company.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the AppSec team, including hiring, onboarding, performance, and career development for Senior and Staff-level engineers.
• Own formalisation of AppSec strategy and roadmap with measurable outcomes.
• Be a credible technical partner on threat models, security architecture, tooling design, and risk decisions.
• Define and maintain the team's operating rhythm: OKRs, quarterly planning, cross-team coordination, stakeholder communication up to leadership.
• Act as a key interface between AppSec and the rest of the organisation and leadership to embed security across Synthesia.
• Participate in evolving Synthesia's AI-assisted development security approach for AI-generated code.
• Own AppSec's relationship with the broader Security function and alignment on incidents and initiatives.
• Represent AppSec externally with customers, auditors, and compliance programmes like SOC2 and ISO42001.
