Global Staff Network is seeking an experienced Accounting & Tax Supervisor to join a full-time role with an Australian accounting firm. You will manage a diverse client portfolio, providing technical review and day-to-day supervision to junior accountants.

This is a full-time Supervisor (Accounting & Tax) role with an Australian accounting firm. The successful candidate will manage their own portfolio of SME, company, trust, and individual clients while providing technical review, guidance, and day-to-day supervision to Senior, Intermediate, and Graduate Accountants. The role requires strong Australian accounting and tax knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to balance hands-on client work with team support, workflow management, and quality assurance.
Key responsibilities
Manage an individual portfolio of SME, company, trust, and individual clients while remaining actively involved in billable client work.
Prepare and finalize financial statements, income tax returns, BAS/IAS, and FBT returns.
Handle complex Australian tax matters, including Division 7A, CGT, trust distributions, and tax planning.
Review accounting and tax work prepared by Senior, Intermediate, and Graduate Accountants to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with firm standards.
Provide timely technical guidance, constructive feedback, and coaching to team members.
Allocate and monitor day-to-day jobs within the team to ensure workloads, deadlines, and client requirements are managed effectively.
Act as the first point of contact for technical queries and elevate complex matters to the Team Leader or Director when required.
Monitor WIP, turnaround times, workload, and team capacity, and communicate progress, issues, and potential risks to the Team Leader.
Support the team in meeting lodgment, compliance, and client deadlines.
Ensure consistent use of firm systems, templates, and procedures.
Build and maintain strong client relationships and identify opportunities for advisory and tax-planning services.
Mentor and support junior accountants and assist with the onboarding and induction of new team members.
Contribute to the improvement of accounting, tax, and workflow processes.
About you
CA or CPA qualified.
Strong experience in Australian accounting and public practice.
Advanced technical knowledge of Australian tax, compliance, and financial reporting, particularly for SME clients.
Demonstrated experience reviewing the work of other accountants and providing technical guidance.
Experience managing a client portfolio while supervising or supporting a small accounting team.
Previous experience in a Supervisor, 2IC, Senior Accountant, or Acting Team Leader capacity is highly desirable.
Experience with cloud accounting and practice management software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks.
Exposure to business advisory or specialist tax services is an advantage.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear feedback and technical guidance.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail when handling accounting, tax, and financial information.
Comfortable balancing hands-on accounting responsibilities with team supervision and review.
Proactive, dependable, and approachable, with an interest in developing further leadership and people-management capabilities.
