Hiring: Senior Chief Accountant
Division: Finance
Reports To: President & COO
Position Overview
The Senior Chief Accountant is responsible for leading and overseeing the organization's accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strong financial governance. The role supports both academic and healthcare operations by managing accounting processes, strengthening internal controls, guiding the accounting team, and providing strategic financial insights to management.
This position is ideal for a seasoned CPA who can serve as a strong financial steward, mentor the existing accounting team, and help elevate the organization's finance function toward greater efficiency, control, and long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial transactions and reports.
- Supervise and review key accounting functions, including:
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
- Payroll Accounting
- Fixed Assets
- General Ledger Management
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards and institutional policies.
- Ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of tuition revenues, student receivables, hospital-related transactions, grants, and other institutional revenues and expenditures.
Compliance & Audit Management
- Ensure compliance with BIR regulations, tax requirements, VAT-related transactions, withholding taxes, and other statutory obligations.
- Coordinate annual external audits and government examinations.
- Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents required for audits and regulatory reviews.
- Coordinate with external auditors, banks, government agencies, and regulatory bodies regarding financial and accounting matters.
Financial Control & Process Improvement
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, adjusting entries, and accounting documentation.
- Strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal control systems to safeguard institutional assets.
- Monitor cash flow and assist management in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Lead initiatives to improve accounting processes, reporting systems, and operational efficiencies.
- Ensure proper maintenance, confidentiality, and security of accounting records and financial information.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Accounting Department personnel.
- Manage team performance, productivity, and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a key contributor to organizational change management and finance transformation initiatives.
Strategic Support
- Provide financial analysis, reports, and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
- Support management in strategic planning, budgeting, and institutional growth initiatives.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Finance OIC, President & COO, or Board of Trustees.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy.
- Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Experience
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
- At least 3–5 years of managerial or leadership experience.
- Experience overseeing end-to-end accounting operations and financial reporting.
- Background in Higher Education Institutions (HEI), universities, colleges, healthcare organizations, hospitals, or medical schools is highly preferred.
- Candidates from other industries may be considered if they possess strong accounting leadership experience and adaptability.
- Strong knowledge of Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS) and taxation regulations.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and internal controls.
- Strong understanding of audit processes and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.
