Job summary

This hands-on role requires expertise in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and the ability to manage the full accounting cycle independently, including day-to-day accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of professional accounting experience.
• Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO).
• Strong working knowledge of IFRS.
• Demonstrated experience managing the full accounting cycle and month-end close.
• Experience developing and improving accounting processes and internal controls.
• Prior experience supervising or managing accounting staff.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Experience in the insurance, reinsurance, or surety industry strongly preferred.
• CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional designation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting cycle within QuickBooks Online (QBO).
• Lead the month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and review of results.
• Maintain the general ledger and IFRS-compliant financial records.
• Oversee AR, AP, invoicing, collections, and payments.
• Perform and review bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Ensure timely, accurate classification and recording of transactions.
• Review processes and implement improvements for accuracy and efficiency.
• Develop and document procedures, workflows, and internal controls.
• Supervise and manage one accounting team member focused on invoicing.
• Prepare management reporting and financial analysis.
• Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors.

Full-Time Contract Position

Northernlight Insurance and Surety Company is seeking an experiencedAccounting Managerto oversee the company’s accounting operations and help strengthen its accounting processes and controls.

This is a hands-on position requiring strongQuickBooks Online (QBO)expertise and the ability to manage the full accounting cycle independently. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for day-to-day accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and oversight of one team member responsible primarily for invoicing.

The successful candidate will also play an important role in evaluating existing accounting practices, refining workflows, and establishing new processes and controls where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting cycle withinQuickBooks Online (QBO)
• Lead themonth-end close, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and review of financial results
• Maintain the general ledger and financial records in accordance withIFRS
• OverseeAccounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), invoicing, collections, and payment processes
• Perform and review bank, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations
• Ensure transactions are accurately classified, supported, and recorded on a timely basis
• Review existing accounting processes and implement improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, and consistency
• Develop and document accounting procedures, workflows, and internal controls as needed
• Supervise and manage one accounting team member responsible primarily for invoicing
• Prepare and support management reporting and financial analysis
• Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and other professional partners as required
