Job summary

Manulife Philippines is seeking an Accounting Analyst to perform moderately complex financial analyses, journal entries, reconciliations and close processes. You will support internal and external audits, assist in regulatory filings, and mentor junior staff while applying CGAAP/US GAAP knowledge in an insurance context.

The role requires strong Excel and Essbase capabilities, plus experience with Lawson and JETS. A hybrid work setup in Quezon City is offered with potential night shifts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience (2–4 years).
• Amenable to night shift and hybrid work setup (3x onsite per week in Quezon City).
• Knowledge of accounting rules, regulatory filings, and reconciliations.
• Analytical and inquiry skills to understand financial statements and board reports.
• Advanced knowledge of several reporting concepts (footnotes, disclosures).
• Strong communication to collaborate with management and colleagues.

Job description

The Accounting Analyst role, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting moderately complex financial, accounting and economic analyses, including journal entry preparation, detailed calculations and internal and external reporting. Duties may include assisting in the preparation of journal entries by compiling, analyzing, and substantiating financial transactions as needed, reconciling accounts as requested, assist in month end/quarterly/year end close process and reporting. assisting in the annual audit, including year-end schedule and financial statement preparation and assisting with the preparation of tax and regulatory reports.

Position Responsibilities:

• Responsible for performing advanced accounting activities such as creating standard and non-standard journal entries, reconciling complex general ledger accounts, and preparing state filings, footnotes, and financial statement pages.
• Also, responsible for analyzing financial results, detecting aberrations and providing commentary with respect to specific areas of focus.
• Makes recommendations for process improvements.
• Responsible for performing accounting activities such as creating standard and non-standard journal entries, reconciling complex general ledger accounts, and preparing state filings, footnotes, and financial statement pages.
• Responsible for analyzing financial results, detecting aberrations and providing commentary with respect to specific areas of focus.
• Shows a moderate degree of proficiency with reporting and analysis tools.
• Works on semi-structured assignments based on existing practices and within guidelines.
• Mentors staff accountants.
• Compile ad hoc accounting and analyses for other business partners
• Assist with internal and external audits
• Shares best practices with other team members and makes recommendations for process improvements
• Assists directors, managers and other team members on various projects and analyses

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience of 2 to 4 years.
• Amenable to work on a night shift work schedule and hybrid work set up of 3x a week onsite (Quezon City).
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of accounting rules, regulatory rules and/or business processes as it pertains to the accountant's sphere of responsibility (e.g., a set of regulatory filings or account reconciliations)
• Demonstrates broad based analytical and inquiry skills to understand legal entity financial statements, board reports, and/or filings.
• Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of several specific reporting concepts as they relate to a specific area of focus (for example: specific footnote disclosures)
• Effective interaction and communication skills to communicate issues to management and collaborate with colleagues.
• Demonstrates a commitment to attain a working knowledge of CGAAP, USGAAP, and NAIC accounting bases as they pertain to the insurance industry in general.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of the life insurance regulatory environment (SEC Product Filings, OFSI, or Statutory compliance).
• Strong computer skills and an advanced knowledge of MS Excel and the Essbase add-in
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of Lawson accounting segments and Essbase roll ups.
• Demonstrates proficiency with JETS to create and post journal entries.
• Demonstrates strong organization and documentation skills to evidence a clear audit trail for work performed
