The purpose of this role is to assist the finance department with support for various accounting functions.
Primarily the Accountant is responsible for general accounting matters for the Business group covering journal entries, fixed assets, payroll accounting, management reporting, statutory reporting, balance sheet reconciliations and various other finance functions as required. The accountant reports to the Financial Controller and the role is focused on the Global counter-part business.
Responsibilities
Accounting
- Journal entries and adjustments in the company Oracle accounting system as required
- Be proactive with addressing accounting issues and resolve variances each month to maintain balance sheet integrity
- Understanding the financial statements and flow of data in Oracle and what the numbers represent
- Accuracy in journal preparation and analysis
- Proactive in reconciling variances regularly and frequently, following up as required with initiative
Financial Close & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain account reconciliations for sign off, including Fixed Assets, Payroll, and Accruals
- Assist with reviewing profit and loss accounts to ensure accuracy of entries and integrity of results, with consideration for requirements of overall business, Enterprise and Senior Management
- Adhering to the deadlines for month end, including project reporting cut-off, issuing of Flash report, and Hyperion
- Hyperion submission to WSP Global for Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly reporting packs
- Assisting the Financial Controller and accountants with general accounting duties when needed
- Gain an understanding of the impact that accounting and finance processes have on projects
- Completion of accounting tasks and reconciliations in accordance with timetables to meet local and global deadlines
Audit
- Auditor queries and reviews to comply with SOX and actively progressing external audit requirements
- Ensure adherence to SOX requirements for month end tasks and reconciliations
- Point of contact for internal and external auditors. Prepare information to meet audit requirements
- Compliance reporting for WSP Global on treasury and statutory accounting matters
- Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards and laws relating to financial reporting
Process Improvement and Adhoc
- Preparation of declarations for wages for Workers Compensation, liaison with broker with regards to lodgement, invoice payment, and tracking of Workers Compensation liabilities
- Continuously seek ways to make Group Accounting processes more efficient and robust
- Assist finance controllers with projects from time to time including improvements/upgrades to financial systems, accounting activities and other strategic initiatives
- Assist Finance Business Partners with accounting queries and other analysis
- Support for Group Accounting team for treasury and banking activities, joint venture accounting, analysis, and month end tasks as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- CA or CPA qualified, or nearing completion
- Intermediate knowledge of IFRS/AASB and general accounting principles
- Working knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes
- Minimum 4 years' experience in accounting firms, or combined with commercial experience in an group accounting team. - Understanding of large ERP systems and financial reporting tools (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Hyperion, Blackline, TM1)
- Strong excel skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Able to meet unexpected workflow demands and strict deadlines
- Sets objectives and priorities to achieve results and meet requirements of the role
- Integrates well with all members of the finance team
- Establishes and maintains relationships (internal and external). Customer service focus.
- Displays initiative, identifies and evaluates issues, makes recommendations to managers in a proactive manner
