Qualifications

• Ability to check equipment and inventory, and restock as needed.
• Ability to review patient schedules and read physician orders for examinations.
• Good judgment in selecting imaging methods and ensuring proper patient positioning.
• Ability to obtain quality images and adjust equipment for beam strength.
• Experience recording examination data, measuring heart structures, and comparing to norms.
• Monitor patient condition and report changes or emergencies to staff.
• Maintain accurate patient documentation and computerized records.
• Promote safety and proper use of equipment and supplies.
• Commit to updating knowledge through continuing education.

Responsibilities

• Prepares examinations by checking equipment and inventorying and restocking; reviewing patient schedules; reading physician orders of specific examinations; setting-up recording equipment; entering patient information into system
• Reduces patients' anxieties by explaining procedures; answering questions; providing assistance to examination table or treadmill
• Determines appropriate methodology and techniques to use; arranges immobilization and/or support devices for proper patient positioning; selects appropriate imaging device
• Uses good judgement when determining if the procedure was sufficient for proper diagnosis, or if additional imaging procedures are needed
• Obtains quality images by positioning and repositioning transducer; monitoring display screen; listening to signals; adjusting equipment for beam strength and focus; detecting artifacts that mimic abnormalities; recording images
• Records examination information by printing graphics and data; calculating measurements of heart wall, chamber size, and blood flow direction and velocity; comparing measurements to norms
• Monitors the patient's physical condition during the course of the procedure; report patient change of status or emergency situations to clinical staff, supervisor and/or cardiologist
• Maintain accurate patient documentation, including computerized documentation
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
• Updates knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
