Department of English - Temporary Faculty (TFAC) Pool

The University of South Carolina Aiken is collecting application materials for the Department of English Part-time Temporary Instructor Pool.

Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the first-year composition sequence:

  • ENGL A101 — Composition (3 credits). A course in the composing process with attention to invention, arrangement, and style and closely supervised practice in reading and writing. Students must complete ENGL A101 with a grade of C or better in order to fulfill English general education requirements.
  • ENGL A102 — Composition and Literature (3 credits). A course in the writing of expository and critical essays with an introduction to literature and including a research paper. (Prerequisite: grade of C or better in ENGL A101.) Students must complete ENGL A102 with a grade of C or better in order to fulfill English general education requirements.
  • Courses are taught primarily in person on the USC Aiken campus; opportunities to teach online sections may also be available for qualified candidates. Adjunct instructors are responsible for delivering instruction consistent with departmental course outcomes, holding regular student availability hours, providing timely feedback on student writing, maintaining accurate grade records, and submitting grades by university deadlines.

Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in English, or a master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in English. Salary is commensurate and competitive with qualifications and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching first-year composition at the college level
  • Familiarity with process-based writing pedagogy and the teaching of research writing
  • Experience using a learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) to support instruction
  • Experience or demonstrated readiness to teach in online modalities

USCA’s Department of Computer Science, Engineering, & Mathematics is collecting application materials for a Part-time Temporary Mathematics Instructor Pool.

Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in Mathematics.

Requirements: Master’s degree in related field with at least 18 graduate hours in the perspective discipline is required. Teaching experience preferred. Salary is commensurate and competitive with qualifications and experience.

For undergraduate level teaching: a master’s degree in teaching discipline or a master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline) is required.

For graduate level teaching: an earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline is required.

Teaching experience preferred. Online, in-person, and clinical/supervision positions may be available. Salary is commensurate and competitive with qualifications and experience.

Department of Sociology Part-time Temporary Instructor Pool.

Applicants should be able to teach classes in one the following disciplines:

  • Criminology
  • Criminal Justice
  • Human Services
  • African American Studies

Master's degree in related field with at least 18 graduate hours in the perspective discipline is required. Teaching experience preferred. Both online and in-person positions may be available. Salary is commensurate and competitive with qualifications and experience.

  • Salary $15/hr (Hours vary based on need)

The overall focus of this position is to supervise the USCA Natatorium. Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing assistance to Natatorium members, processing membership payments, monitoring and observing all member activity in the pool and on the deck, implementing emergency procedures when needed, and performingother duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Lifeguarding Certification (The USCA Department of Recreation and Wellness will pay for certification if you are not currently certified). You must be at least 16 years old.

The Teaching Assistant will implement instructional programs and ensure that the classroom practices meet the requirements of the Department of Social Services Licensing Standards of the Child Care and Development Block Program at the National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation. Additionally, the successful candidate will also provide care for and interact with all children in a quality childcare setting at the USCA Children's Center. Hours to be determined.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Training or successfully complete both programs within 60 days of acceptance of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience in early childhood education.
  • CDA credentials or an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Candidates without an Associate's Degree must be able to meet NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) minimum standards for assistant teachers to demonstrate appropriate knowledge of individual and group behavioral activities, teaching practices, lesson planning and student evaluation.
