Overview

We are currently looking for a Project Coordinator for our Mathematics Project to plan, manage and deliver maths comprehension classes. This is the perfect role for anyone who has a passion for teaching and helping others to develop their skills in mathematics. This position is a hands-on role with more exposure to the Spanish language than some office roles, so it would be a great opportunity for Spanish-speaking volunteers or those looking to improve their Spanish language skills. Volunteers are required to give around 25 hours of their time per week. You may also have the opportunity to be involved with other projects such as HELP Environment, HELP Literacy and HELP Youth. All volunteer positions are available as internships, which is ideal for students looking to complete a year in industry/placement abroad, with appropriate mentorship and communication with your academic institution to ensure compliance with internship placement requirements.

Responsibilities

• Planning and updating the OCN maths curriculum, including lesson planning and the management of resources for the appropriate delivery of maths lessons.
• Maintaining all material related to the project.
• Helping to look after our classrooms and related materials in the Recreation & Education Centre (REC).
• Coming up with new and creative ways to improve the maths comprehension project.
• Writing weekly reports and monthly reviews on the project progress and impact.
• Managing and coordinating other volunteers’ time within the maths project.
• Assisting with local fundraisers.

Mandatory Requirements

• Strong ability in mathematics
• Academic experience in STEM subjects
• A good level of Spanish
• A good attitude with attributes of flexibility, responsibility and open-mindedness
• Ability to lead others; prior leadership experience is an advantage
• Ability to cope with active and energetic children

• Experience of living abroad
• Spanish classes can be arranged in advance (via Skype) or during stay

Logistics

Our minimum stay for the Project Coordinator - Mathematics position is 3 months, but we are ideally looking for volunteers who can stay longer to become part of the local community. This position is suitable for internships to align with academic requirements.
