The Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) program, an AAR business, headquartered in Rockledge, FL, provides global, world-class expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing.

Role Description

Diagnoses malfunctions and repairs Ground Support Equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical publications.
  • Uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions.
  • Analyzes, diagnosis, and repairs GSE using conventional and digital multimeters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE, which includes routine maintenance on aviation ground support vehicles, POL equipment, and their sub-systems.
  • Inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.
  • Services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air.
  • Diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical publications.
  • Removes, disassembles, repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls GSE components and accessories.
  • Stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications.
  • Stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards, and regulations.
  • Prepares GSE for storage and mobility deployment.
  • Operates, cleans, inspects, and services GSE towing vehicles.
  • Maintains vehicle records, and updates paper and electronic equipment records.
  • Provides dispatch services for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations, practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety at all times.
  • Performs routine maintenance on the aviation ground support vehicles, POL equipment, and their sub-systems.
  • Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, or overhauls all types of diesel and gasoline engines.
  • Communicates and coordinates with related departments and trades prior to starting work on GSE or POL equipment when it is expected to be out of service for extended periods.
  • Performs material requests as required for GSE-POL maintenance.
  • Able to work unsupervised at remote sites.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

For LATAM Countries

  • Perform on the job training, assist, and advise the host nation GSE-POL mechanic in all daily maintenance activities.
  • Assist the host nation mechanic to establish, implement, and maintain the maintenance program of the Ground Support and POL equipment.
  • Ensure host nation mechanic properly complete forms and records related with the GSE and POL equipment maintenance.
  • Train, assist, and monitor the host nation mechanic on the proper use of all types of ground support equipment and POL equipment.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, of which four years must be specialized in aviation ground support vehicle-equipment maintenance.
  • Must have completed an apprenticeship and/or formal training as a GSE Mechanic.
  • Position requires a U.S. Department of State Moderate Risk Public Trust MRPT or Embassy background check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Flight Line Drivers License.
  • Ability to speak, read and comprehend Level II English.

Spanish Level L2, R2 required in LATAM Programs.

Preferred

  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Previous OCONUS Experience.
  • Good troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic or higher welding skills.
  • Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricant certifications.
  • Hazmat certifications

OCONUS

  • Ability to pass physical screening
  • Passport with 18 months remaining
