A leading shipping company in Oman is seeking a Superintendent for HSEQ Training and Compliance. This role is vital for ensuring safety, compliance, and excellence in operations on company-managed vessels, requiring regular training and compliance audits. Job Purpose:
The HSEQ Training and Compliance Superintendent plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and operational excellence of our company-managed vessels. This position will require monitoring and arranging training-related activities for the ships’ staff, regular travel to various vessels and sail on them, where the HSEQ T&C Superintendent will conduct safety and on-job training. The goal is to uphold the highest standards of maritime safety and efficiency through hands-on training, compliance audits, and performance evaluations.
Key Accountabilities

1. Develop, implement, and conduct comprehensive safety training programs for crew members. Ensure all personnel are well-versed in emergency procedures, safety protocols, and operational best practices.
• Crew preparedness for Emergency situations.
• Flag State, Port State Control and Vetting Inspection results improvement.
2. Provide on-job training tailored to the specific needs of each vessel. This includes mentoring crew members in the execution of their duties, optimizing operational procedures, and enhancing technical skills. • Improving the performance of Officers and Crew.
• Reducing the number of Technical, Safety & Environmental Incidents.
3. Perform regular compliance audits to ensure all vessels adhere to international maritime regulations, company policies, and safety standards. Identify areas of non-compliance and work with vessel management to implement corrective actions. • Ensuring implementation of the Company SMS on board.
• Average Number of Non-Conformities issued in external audits related to ISM ISPS MLC per year/vessel is continuously having downtrend.
4. Maintain detailed records of training sessions, compliance audits, and performance evaluations. Prepare comprehensive reports for senior management, outlining findings, recommendations, and action plans. • Improving the performance of Officers and Crew.
• Ensuring implementation of the Company SMS on board.
5. Continuously assess the effectiveness of the Company training programs and compliance measures. Propose and implement improvements to training materials, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
• Improving the performance of the Crew related to Personal Safety on board the ships - Lost Time Injury & Total Recordable Cases
6. Evaluate the performance of crew members, providing feedback and identifying areas for further training and development. Support career progression and professional development within the crew.
• Creating and maintaining OSMC Pool of Officers and Crew.
7. Assist in the investigation of safety incidents and near-misses. Analyze root causes and contribute to the development of preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
• Reducing Number of major incidents per year for OSMC fleet
8. Stay current with changes in international maritime regulations and industry best practices. Ensure that all training and compliance activities are well planned and coordinated, reflecting the latest standards and requirements. • Be able to plan, arrange and coordinate delivering of up-to-date and comprehensive training to Officers and Crew.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualification:
• Class 1 Master/Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency.
• ISM/ISO Auditor’s certification with previous experience in Safety Department (preferable).
• Ability in training personnel or Certified Training Certificate – Train the Trainer (preferrable).
• Fluent in English and Computer literate.
• Proficient in Incident Investigation. DNV M-SCATT preferable.
Minimum Experience:
• Sea Service as a Senior Deck or Engine Officer / Master or Chief Engineer.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in maritime operations.
Job Specific Skills:
• Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, MLC 2006).
• Excellent training and instructional skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
• Ability to conduct compliance audits and safety assessments.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective planning, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and travel regularly.
