Job summary

Worley, a global professional services company, seeks an Instrument Designer to deliver high-quality instrument drawings for energy projects in Oman. You will guide a team of designers, ensure designs meet standards, and coordinate interfaces across disciplines.

Required are extensive oil & gas facility design experience (front-end and detailed design), proficiency in AutoCAD/3D CAD, SmartPlant, E3D, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in an engineering design firm with demonstrated capability.
• Minimum 10 years in oil & gas facility design (front-end and detailed design).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and strong 3D CAD skills; SmartPlant and E3D experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform layout studies and finalize plot plans.
• Develop and produce instrument engineering drawings.
• Understand and work with instrument classes and interfaces.
• Conduct instrument studies and generate GA diagrams.
• Coordinate design interfaces across disciplines.
• Maintain and modify existing drawings with accuracy and consistency.
• Ensure drawings meet codes, standards and procedures.
• Provide expert checking of drawings prepared by others in the discipline.
• Deliver documents within project hours and deadlines.
• Prepare drawings and documents per specs and requirements.
• Adhere to company and client policies and procedures.
• Liaise with other departments, vendors and project personnel for seamless design integration.

Job purpose:

The instrument designer will be responsible for providing high-quality engineering drawings for engineering projects. The role ensures that all design requirements meet industry standards and company procedures. This role requires a high level of technical capabilities to guide a team of designers effectively and ensure high-quality design output for engineering projects.

Key responsibilities:

• Perform layout studies to finalize plot plans.
• Develop and produce instrument engineering drawings.
• Understand and work with instrument classes.
• Conduct instrument studies and generate GA.
• Ensure all design interfaces are clearly defined and effectively coordinated across disciplines.
• Maintain and modify existing drawings as required, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Conduct thorough design quality checks in accordance with relevant codes, standards, and procedures.
• Provide expert checking of drawings prepared by designers in the same discipline.
• Ensure all design documents are completed within allocated project hours and deadlines.
• Prepare detailed drawings and documents per engineering specifications and requirements.
• Implement company and, where applicable, client/project policies and procedures.
• Liaise with other departments, vendors, and project personnel to ensure seamless integration of design documentation.
• Report to the relevant discipline lead on project deliverables and tasks.

Required qualifications & experience:

• At least 12 years of experience in an engineering design firm, with demonstrated capability.
• Minimum of 10 years in oil & gas facility design, with front-end and detailed design expertise.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and strong 3D CAD skills, SmartPlant, preferably with E3D experience.
• Familiarity with company standards, Shell Group DEPs, and international engineering standards.
• Strong understanding of vendor documentation and interface points with company engineering documents.
• Construction and commissioning field experience including resolving site queries.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for team management and coordination.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• Proficiency in PC applications relevant to design and documentation.
