Position: Power System Study Engineer
Reports to: Department Head (Electrical) at Muscat office.
Work Location: Muscat
Supports Sr. Protection Engineer and Electrical Design Engineers.
Coordinates within the Electrical team on the Protection Design of various projects.
Job Requirements
- Language: Good command of spoken and written English
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Experience: At least 5+ years of experience with T&D and PDO/Non-PDO clients
Main competencies & capabilities required
- Proficient knowledge of Shell Standards, PDO, OETC, Oxy & OQ Standards, IEC, IEEE, and PDO standard SP 1107 for Power system studies and Protection system design.
- Experience with Power System Studies such as Load Flow, Short Circuit, Motor Starting, Harmonic Study, Voltage Flicker, Grid Impact, Power Quality, Reactive Power Compensation, Transient Stability, Filter Design, Frequency Response, Voltage Unbalance, Reliability, Grid Contingency, PV/Wind System impact, Insulation Coordination, SA selection, EMT studies, Synchronization, Load Shedding, Islanding, and Arc Flash studies.
- Calculations for CT & VT sizing for various projects and relays.
- Design of power system study models using DigSilent, EDSA, and ETAP software.
- Conducting load flow, short circuit, and motor starting studies using DigSilent, EDSA, ETAP, PV Syst, Homer, Helioscope, or Solar Design Software.
- Supporting the preparation of key project drawings (PMD, BLD, CT/VT Calculations, MTO) during the design phase.
- Reviewing vendor schematics at various voltage levels and approving drawings per client requirements.
- Completing tasks within scheduled timelines, coordinating with site teams for settings implementation, and supporting commissioning activities.
- Participating in site queries, internal meetings, project coordination, and client protection status reviews.
- Providing PMC support for protection-related deliverables.
- Evaluating offers from LV/MV switchgear, DG, transformer, and relay vendors.
- Participating in analysis of site trip incidents with clients.
- Training young Omani engineers in protection systems.
Additional technical competencies & capabilities (not essential)
- Modeling electrical systems using DigSilent, EDSA, ETAP.
- Experience with other clients such as Daleel Petroleum, Occidental Oman, OETC, OQ, and Oman Oil Refineries.

- Adheres to client and MEC quality standards.
- Addresses customer complaints effectively during the design process.

- Proposals: Reviews inquiries, prepares CTRs, TQs, scope, assumptions, deviations.
- Planning & Scheduling: Contributes to project schedules.
- Contracting & Procurement: Identifies needs and collaborates with contractors/sub-contractors.
- Resources: Determines human, hardware, and software needs and training.
- Tools: Keeps updated with developments in DigSilent and other software versions.
