Job summary

Vale is seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to execute and monitor maintenance activities in the Grinding and Mixing area to maximize equipment availability and production targets while adhering to HSE standards.

You will plan, troubleshoot, and drive improvements across mills, mixers, silos, and conveyors, mentoring junior technicians and collaborating with engineering, safety, and procurement teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical maintenance in heavy industrial/mining environments.
• Hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting and reliability improvements for grinding, mixing, and material handling equipment.
• Experience with large-capacity mills, mixers, silos, conveyors, and related process equipment.

Job Summary

• Responsible for executing and monitoring the maintenance activities in Grinding and Mixing area aiming to achieve the availability of mechanical equipment in order to achieve the production target and adherence to the quality & HSE standards.

MAIN CHALLENGES

• Ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance execution to maximize equipment availability and support production targets while complying with HSE and quality standards.
• Managing maintenance priorities, resources, and stakeholder coordination in a dynamic operational environment while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Main Responsibilities

• Safety and Compliance:
• Perform maintenance tasks following Vale’s HSE guidelines.
• Comply with all aspects of Vale Production System (VPS).
• Review risks involved in activities and ensure controls are in place.
• Raise issues related to safety, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Conduct behavior dialogues during execution.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S).
• Maintenance Planning and Execution:
• Execute and monitor maintenance activities to ensure equipment availability and achieve production targets.
• Perform mechanical maintenance activities, including preventive, corrective, and shutdown maintenance.
• Handle troubleshooting and failure analysis.
• Specify, provide, and control materials, resources, and tools needed for maintenance activities.
• Monitor work orders and confirm activity closures in the SAP system and follow the department KPI.
• Review critical spare parts for the area and perform technical evaluations.
• Perform equipment inspection services and align outcomes with the inspection and planning team.
• Conduct material inspections upon arrival (warehouse).
• Planning and Scheduling:
• Participate in planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
• Technical Expertise and Support:
• Provide technical advice, support, and feasibility for junior level.
• Ensure activities are performed according to quality and engineering requirements.
• Participate in Reliability RCS/RCA asset failure investigation.
• Interpret drawings, work instructions, and standards.
• Understand the operation of components and their inter-relationships.
• Conduct technical training for the department’s mechanics for any new technical standards or procedures in order to enhance their knowledge.
• Execute and support maintenance activities for mills, mixers, conveyors, bucket elevators, pneumatic conveying systems, silos, scrubbers, thickeners, separators, and associated equipment to ensure equipment reliability and availability.
• Support Engineering & Safety team in the safety & environmental incidents / accidents investigation.
• Contract Management:
• Control and manage contracts according to guidelines and procedures.
• Improvements:
• Propose improvements in operational maintenance procedures (standards and work instructions, e.g. SOP, JSA).
• Raise Kaizen and CI initiatives.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Understand and complete daily reports/checklists for all maintenance activities.
• Issue work permit.
• Budget Support:
• Participate in the budgeting cycle of the area and cost efficiency.
• Teamwork:
• Serve as a reference for mechanics and technician I and maintain communication within maintenance department and with stakeholders.

Qualification / Experience

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical maintenance within heavy industrial, mining, mineral processing, pelletizing, or similar environments.
• Hands-on experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvement of grinding, mixing, material handling, storage, conveying, and separation equipment.
• Experience with large-capacity industrial equipment, including mills, intensive mixers, silos, bucket elevators, pneumatic conveying systems, scrubbers, thickeners, conveyors, feeders, and associated process equipment.
