Job summary

Orion Group is seeking a Lead Process Engineer Central - Aromatic Units for a base role in Sohar, Oman. The position requires extensive experience in Aromatic Units (Aromizer Plant, Naphtha Hydrotreater, Morphylane Unit, XyMax Unit, Eluxyl, etc.) and a strong background in oil & gas refinery projects.

You will lead feasibility studies, FEED and EPC activities, and guide process optimization initiatives while ensuring safety standards and project budgets are met.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15+ years in a similar lead role within Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industries.
• Experience in feasibility studies, FED studies and EPC projects.
• Experience in process optimization and energy optimization projects.
• Experience in tender evaluations and scope of work preparation.
• Strong knowledge of refinery processes, equipment and HSE practices.
• Familiarity with process safety, H2S awareness, and emergency response.
• Ability to lead engineering teams and manage budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Lead feasibility, process optimization, energy optimization, FEED studies and EPC project support.
• Direct engineering processes and procedures to ensure timely completion of technical assessments and recommendations.
• Coordinate with vendors/OEMs, participate in HAZOP, and support FATs/SATs.
• Prepare data for Heat and Material Balances, PFDs, P&IDs and minor plant modifications.
• Review refinery turnaround scopes of work and manage change through MOC process.

Job description

We currently have an opportunity for a Lead Process Engineer Central - Aromatic Units role. This position is based in Sohar, Oman.

Minimum requirements

• Experience in Aromatic Units (Aromizer Plant, Naphtha Hydrotreater, Morphylane Unit, XyMax Unit, Eluxyl plant, etc.) are preferred.
• 15+ years of relevant experience in similar role within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry, preferably with experience in the area/assets associated with this position.
• Experience in feasibility study, FED study and EPC project.
• Experience in process optimization projects, energy optimization projects.
• Experience in chemical, catalyst and study tender technical evaluations and scope of work preparation.
• Engineer role within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry.
• Experience and well versed in field investigation, inspections, troubleshooting, performance checks, data compilation, etc.
• Expertise in Process Plant (P& ID / PFD) & Engineering drawings and OEM manuals.
• Knowledge in software applications like Petrosim, Hysys, PI and LIMS etc.
• Expertise in Refinery operations (Process, Static & Rotating Equipment).
• Knowledge in HSE (Process Safety, H2S Awareness, Basic Fire Fighting, Emergency Response)
• Knowledge of DCS systems
• Good knowledge and expertise of SAP.
• Computer knowledge in MS Office applications like MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
• Experience in benchmarking studies like Solomon.
• Experience in Asset Master Data governance.
• Sound judgment in technical matters with good skills in engineering field materials specifications and international standards.
• Expertise for budgeting and cost control.
• Familiar with techniques for ensuring data integrity with various integration of information/ reports.
• Lead the feasibility study, Process optimization study, energy optimization study, FEED study and support to EPC project.
• Lead the Engineering processes and procedures implementation to assure that the team completes the technical assessments, recommendations, tasks and activities as per objectives and ensures that the technical support requirements for all the Maintenance and operations assets are performed in a timely manner in order to minimise the down time.
• Cooperates on contract management, interacting with the Vendors/ OEM management, coordination with Engineering/ TSD/ Inspection, FATs & SATs support, RCM Management, HAZOP, and other departments,
• Provides input into the assigned budget for the department and advises on red flag budget over spend.
• Identifies and execute opportunities to optimize operations within and across process units or equipment.
• Supervises and verify design work performed by internal/ external engineering resources, which results in process optimization.
• Prepare data for Heat and Material Balances, Process Flow Diagrams, designs minor plant modifications and follows through to the project completion.
• Review details of the refinery turn around process scope of work.
• Analyses the documentation related to Scope of Work for MOC (Management of Change) requests raised for process improvement.
• Performs Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and proposes corrective actions for performance improvement.
• Participates in HAZOP studies for any modification of existing facilities/plants.

Technical

• Computer literacy including MS Office
• Business applications (PI, LIMS, SAP, PetroSim, hysys, etc.)
• Proficient at interpreting Technical Drawings
• Supporting and delivering right technical solutions to the plant and to provide swift support as needed.
• Technical understanding of downstream petroleum industries

• BPM (business process management) methodology and tools

Qualification

• Minimum qualification required is bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or equivalent
