Job summary

Dhofar Cement Company is seeking a skilled machinist to set up and operate conventional lathe machines, read engineering drawings, and perform turning, drilling, threading, and related operations to produce precision parts.

You will measure parts with vernier calipers and gauges, adjust settings for accuracy, maintain records, and follow safety procedures. The role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and commitment to quality in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Set up and operate conventional lathe machines.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and understand measurements.
• Adjust and set up tools, chucks and fixtures for machining.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional lathe machines.

• Select and install appropriate cutting tools, chucks and fixtures.
• Perform turning, facing, drilling, threading, boring, grooving and related machining operations.
• Measure finished parts using vernier calipers, micrometers and gauges.
• Check dimensions and surface finish to ensure products meet specifications.
• Adjust machine settings and cutting parameters as required.
• Identify machining defects and make necessary corrections.
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication and basic maintenance of machines.
• Follow workplace safety procedures and use PPE.
• Maintain production records and report machine or quality issues to the supervisor.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Technical/vocational training in machining, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
• Experience operating lathe machines is preferred.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of measuring instruments and machining tools.
• Good understanding of workshop safety.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
