Job Title: Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) in Engineering (Chemical, Energy) or closely related disciplines, Faculty of Engineering Job Summary: This is a predominantly teaching focused position to manage and support delivery of postgraduate, undergraduate, foundation and executive programmes. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in assisting teaching and research. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in teaching and research engagement. The successful candidate is expected to:
- Assist in teaching: Support the delivery of modules at the undergraduate level in subjects related to chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering. Engagement with classes, laboratories, and supervision is expected in both semesters (2 semesters per academic year).
- Supervise Projects: Assist in supervising undergraduate design projects through multiple modules, and support in supervising students through laboratory experimentation sessions. Throughout these tasks, the GTA will ensure students are receiving guidance on their work, methodologies and outcomes.
- Engage in Research: Work with research supervisors and assist in the conduct of research activities that lead to meeting the research goals of the faculty.
- Collaborate for Grants: Support in developing research collaborations that result in research grant applications, enhancing the department's funding and research capabilities.
- Curriculum Development: Participate in curriculum development, and graduate supervision while attracting research funding to support program initiatives.
- Community Engagement: Participate in service activities for the university as well as professional and local communities, promoting the importance of engineering science.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the academic director of the relevant faculty (line manager)
- Complete an annual report, submit to the line manager
- Following the shadowing period (1 year) to lead on the seminar delivery for the shadowed modules while continuing to attend the same lectures.
- Assisting in assessment marking and entering grades on the system
- Support discussion sections, tutorials, lab sessions, and attending faculty meetings
- Assist students with coursework, study strategies, and problem-solving
- Address student concerns and refer serious issues to the instructor
- Set up equipment or software for labs or demonstrations
- Take attendance and manage class records
- Assist in invigilating exams
- Provide feedback about student progress and course effectiveness
