Job description

Position Overview

The Field Installation, Testing, Commissioning, and Service Engineer will be responsible for executing installation, testing, and commissioning activities for Medium Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) systems at customer sites across the Middle East.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute installation, testing, and commissioning activities for Medium Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) systems at customer sites.
  • Coordinate and interface with engineering, construction, QA/QC, HSE, operations teams, clients, and consultants to ensure successful project delivery in full compliance with Siemens standards, customer specifications, and international norms.
  • Support troubleshooting activities and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain test records and checklists, prepare detailed reports and commissioning dossiers, manage punch lists, and support system handover activities.
  • Ensure all activities comply with HSE policies, contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and quality standards; participate in audits and customer acceptance inspections.
  • Perform pre‑commissioning activities including component testing, scheme checks and modifications, HV testing, and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) at customer premises.
  • Manage site activities independently, supervise technicians, ensure strict adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive site documentation including test reports, inspection records, Method Statements (MOS), handover documents.
  • Prepare SOPs, MOS, and other project documentation to support back office and project teams.
  • Interact directly with customers, address technical queries, provide clear and professional communication.
  • Collaborate with factory engineering and project teams to resolve site issues and meet project timelines.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and provide technical feedback for future design and process enhancements.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work in challenging oil and gas environments and remote customer facilities, including extended working hours up to 10 hours per day, 7 days a week during shutdown activities.
  • Provide advanced technical support for Siemens distribution systems with a strong focus on testing and troubleshooting, act as on‑site technical representative, lead end‑to‑end testing and commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate and validate test results, update site‑specific documentation, close all open punch points.
  • Independently handle complex technical challenges and mentor junior engineers when required; maintain detailed service records and prepare comprehensive testing and commissioning reports.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with Siemens products and industry trends through continuous training and professional development.
  • Assess and manage on‑site risks and opportunities while ensuring full compliance with standards, regulations, quality benchmarks, and EHS requirements.
  • Demonstrate unrestricted mobility as required by site operations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, High Voltage Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–6 years of experience as an Installation and Commissioning Engineer in utilities, industries, and Oil & Gas facilities.
  • Expert level knowledge of Siemens MV and LV products and power applications.
  • Siemens commissioning certifications in Transformers, NXAIR, 8DA10, Sivacon S8, and protection systems are preferred.
  • Hands‑on experience with test equipment such as Omicron CPC100, CT Analyzer, CMC356, HV test kits, breaker timing kits, etc. (mandatory).
  • Readiness and flexibility to work in remote site locations.
  • Valid Oman driving license or a driving license eligible for conversion in Oman (mandatory).
  • Proven experience in utilities, industries, transmission grid stations, and Oil & Gas facilities.
  • Prior work experience in Oman with DCRP, OETC, and PDO approvals will be an added advantage.
  • Intercultural experience gained through work in the Middle East.
  • Knowledge of competitor products is an advantage.
  • Strong initiative, collaboration skills, and effective communication abilities.
  • Business‑level English language proficiency, with strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to perform testing and commissioning activities safely, on time, with high quality, and through effective planning.
  • Demonstrated unrestricted mobility as required by site operations.
Competencies & Skills
  • Expert knowledge in testing and commissioning of Siemens switchgear types including NXAIR, AIS, 8DA DB, GIS, 8DJH RMU, and Sivacon S8 LV, along with associated protection systems.
  • Experience executing on‑site installation, testing, and commissioning of GIS and AIS systems according to Siemens standards and approved customer drawings.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain design and project documentation such as Method Statements (MOS), SOPs, and handover documents.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and coordination with customer teams for timely acceptance.
  • Strong command over industry safety standards: HSE, Health, Safety & Environment guidelines.
