Job summary

OQ8 in Oman seeks an experienced Reliability Engineer to lead RCM initiatives for critical assets in the operating context. You will conduct RCM assessments, develop corrective actions, and prepare comprehensive reports with root cause analysis and recommendations.

You will monitor failure trends, collaborate with cross-functional teams, guide junior engineers, and ensure adherence to standards and best practices, contributing to sustained asset reliability.

Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of reliability engineering experience, with a focus on RCM.
  • Experience with reliability/maintenance software (CMMS/RCM).

Job description

Provides robust engineering support while executing Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) as systematic approach to determine the

maintenance requirements of physical assets in their operating context at OQ8 under TL Reliability scope, acting as team player for RCM

method, process, standards by: (1) Conducting RCM assessment of variables associated with all engineering incidents in a timely manner

(2) Developing and implementing corrective actions, (3) Prepare and deliver a comprehensive report of the results of every investigation

including the Case Root Cause Analysis and recommendations, to identify areas of improvement and corrective actions, (4) Monitoring

and reporting on failure trends, (5) Collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive reliability improvements, and (6) Guide young

engineers in related matters, in order to ensure that systems continue to do what their users require in their present operating context.

The position will act in accordance with OQ8’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international

standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Oman’s government & other legal justifications, and best international

practices in consonance with national objectives.

Accountabilities
  • RCM analysis
  • Functional Analysis: Identifying the functions of a system and the standards of performance required by its users.
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA): Determining the ways in which a system can fail (failure modes) and the consequences of those failures.
  • Maintenance Strategies: Developing strategies to manage identified failure modes, which may include preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, condition-based maintenance, and run-to-failure approaches.
  • Decision Logic: Applying a decision logic tree to determine the most appropriate maintenance strategy for each failure mode.
RCM Steps
  • Identify critical assets and their functions.
  • Determine failure modes and their effects.
  • Assess the criticality of each failure mode.
  • Develop maintenance tasks to mitigate the failures.
  • Implement and continuously improve the maintenance program.
Tools and Techniques
  • Implement the RCM tools & techniques: o 5 Whys: Asking "why" multiple times until the root cause is identified. o Fishbone (Ishikawa) Diagram: A visual tool to categorize potential causes of problems. o Fault Tree Analysis (FTA): A top-down approach to identify root causes by mapping out the pathways of failure. o Pareto Analysis: Identifying the most significant factors contributing to the problem based on the Pareto principle.
Communication
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, maintenance, operations, and safety.
  • Communicate RCM findings and recommendations effectively to stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance to the parties involved in an incident investigation to promote the positive impact of the incident investigation. Contribute to the development and execution of the process improvement, long-term strategic plan in alignment with the function and organization strategies.
Compliance
  • Assists with internal and external QA/QC audits by resolving basic issues identified in audits.
  • Support the development and implementation of departmental policies, systems, processes, procedures, and controls, and continuously identify and recommend improvements while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and relevant legislation.
  • Ensure that the department recommendations and reports are accurate, relevant, and timely will lead to stakeholders being able to make informed and timely decisions.
Reporting
  • Present regular and ad-hoc management reports on new opportunities, highlight critical issues and challenges and provide strategic insight to ensure effective decision-making.
Training
  • Recommend training and workshops programs for leaders and employees.

Education
  • requirements · Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related field).
  • Certifications: Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or equivalent certification preferred.
