Job description

Job Title: Manager - Operational Risk

Department: Risk Management

Reporting to: Head Operational Risk

Reported by: None

Main Role (Overall Accountability):

Responsible for assisting in the adoption of operational risk management best practices. Ensure the existence of formal manuals for all the bank’s activities and processes, which should be consistent, maintain efficient & effective controls, be customer-oriented, support alignment across interdependent functions, comply with laws & regulations, and reflect BOD’s directives. Assess the internal control system.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Assist in drafting the operational risk management framework & manual.
  2. Review the bank’s activities’ operating policies and manuals, and discuss mitigating actions.
  3. Conduct walkthrough tests and sample checks to assess adherence to policies and manuals.
  4. Disseminate operational risk awareness and risk management culture across the organization.
  5. Provide consultations to other departments to facilitate operational risk management.
  6. Promote automation of bank activities where applicable.
  7. Create proactive, forward-looking identification, assessment (quantitative & qualitative), and treatment approaches to address current, emerging, and potential operational risk events.
  8. Lead projects related to RCSA, KRI, KPI, analyze risk incident root causes, and follow up to improve controls.
  9. Represent the risk management department in bank projects or investigations.
  10. Support the operational risk team in developing and implementing new initiatives and projects.
  11. Serve as backup staff to handle other tasks as assigned.

Personnel Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, economics, finance, or accounting.
  • CIA and CFE certifications are advantages.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in banking operational risk management or internal audit, with at least 4 years in a managerial role.
  • Exposure to different bank functions (operations and business) is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and autonomous.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative, committed, punctual, confident, creative, and detail-oriented.
