Job summary

Prysmian in Oman seeks a power cable design engineer to develop and validate cable designs for LV, MV and instrumentation uses, coordinating with R&D, QC and production teams.

You will contribute to front‑end specifications, BOM creation, and MES/ERP data inputs while ensuring compliance with IEC/BS/HD/AUS/NZ standards and delivering robust, cost‑effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in electrical engineering.
• Must have knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD, SolidWorks & CYMCAP.
• Must have knowledge of fictitious calculation & bill of material calculation for LV, MV & instrumentation cables.
• Must have understanding of cable manufacturing & design for various cables such as LV, MV & instrumentation cables as per IEC, BS, HD, AUS/NZ standards.
• Attention to detail & analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills & collaboration skills in an international setting.
• Ability to work independently & perform well under pressure.
• Decision‑making ability & teamwork.
• Experience: 3+ years as a power cable design engineer (degree); 5+ years as a power cable design engineer (diploma).
• Knowledge of costing software.

• Study & analyze cable market trends.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering and marketing to translate customer needs into cable designs.
• Prepare design calculations, CYMCAP results, ampacity and short‑circuit ratings.
• Create BOMs and raw material specs for production planning and ERP updates.
• Review CMS and design documents before release to manufacturing.
• Coordinate with R&D, QC and production teams for testing and validation.
• Lead on CSI, DTC and sustainability activities as required.
• Substitute for manager during absence and support cross‑functional teams.

Job Overview

As part of the technical team responsible for ensuring the most competitive and appropriate cable designs for each situation considering OCI's needs and capabilities and the customers' needs.

Design cables in accordance with the parameters provided by applicable standards, customers and OCI. To support OCI's strategic goals and tendering, provide customer support and support production.

Key Deliverables

• Pre‑Order: Cooperate with the marketing team in responding timeously to customer enquiries for cables.
• Understand the technical requirements of the customer in terms of cable and design the cable as per requirements.
• Analyse the customer needs to understand the requirements as per OCI technical feasibility and provide feedback to the marketing team accordingly.
• Identify all aspects requiring clarification and participate in technical communications and meetings with customers to ensure the customers' needs can be met.
• Prepare raw material specifications as and when required.
• Provide the technical data sheets to customers as and when required.
• Prepare and upload the design sheets and BOMs for the raw materials required for production of cable in the ERP for the use of financial and marketing teams.
• Coordinate with R&D for all development and with QC for additional testing that may be required.
• Ensure daily activities are distributed to team members.
• Risk assessment and mitigation.
• Design calculations – CYMCAP, cable sizing, ampacity, short‑circuit rating, etc.
• Post‑Order: Perform contract review after order confirmation to clarify and finalize through the marketing department any ambiguities in the purchase orders.
• Prepare the CA Family item codes and CMS cable manufacturing specifications as per the purchase order and transfer the information to the production team for final production.
• Generate the information needed for the MES as and when required.
• Review the CMSs prepared by Design Engineers before sending them to production.
• Prepare designs in a format suitable for driving the MES.
• Work with the New Product Development team, Material and Lab teams, Operations and Procurement team.
• Take lead on CSI, DTC and sustainability activities.
• Substitute manager's responsibility as and when required.
