Job description

Job Purpose

Electrical Design Engineer shall have a strong understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations. Develop processes that require innovation and ingenuity, work to be performed under minimal supervision, liaison with statutory authorities and vendors to ensure the overall project is executed as per ADC yard standards, client requirements. Compliance to ADC Policy and HSSE requirements is mandatory.

Electrical Engineering

Understanding of Electrical basic and detail engineering. Understanding of Electrical and instrumentation part of ship machinery, Navigational and GMDSS items. Work within a 2D/3D model environment to produce project specific documents. Preparing and reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications, plans. Carry out Electrical calculations like load analysis, cable sizing, battery, lighting calculations, transformer sizing, etc. Preparation and review of Electrical layouts and installation drawing. Preparation and review of Alarms list, electrical items list, location drawings, wiring and termination drawings. Preparation of Bulk MTO, Purchase order specifications. Prepare basic and detailed designs for electrical and instrumentation installations on ships (drawings for approval and production). Reviewing design documents from equipment suppliers / External designers. Review Technical bids / offers of system / offers / items to check suitability. The work will involve regular interaction with project manager, department manager, client, and shipyard by establishing and implementing good work practice in department. Discuss and report to Department Head/Team leader of Electrical work progress, resource requirements and explore suitable solutions according to project demands. Should have sound knowledge of 3D modelling and generation of detailed level output related to Electrical work. Coordinate with other engineering and design disciplines.

Engineering Solutions and Standards

A good exposure and knowledge of shipyard standards and know-how of common shipyard practices followed in new-building and repair projects are essential. Familiar with application of design codes and standards for marine installations. Implementation of standard design procedure in Electrical, includes review and continuous improvements upon project requirements.

Ship Electrical Systems

2D drawings / 3D modelling and Detail Design:

• Guide engineers/designers for cable routing, equipment placement
• Prepare BoM and other reports
• Carry out 3D model review

Provide engineering support during the installation and testing of systems on board.

Specification and Master Schedule

Prepare Engineering Specifications, Material specifications, MTO, RFQ (Request for Quotation). Prepare the project specifications and allot jobs for engineers/modellers. The job profile requires planning, scheduling, resource allocation and co-ordination with external parties to achieve department set targets.

Clients & Statutory Interaction

Identify the classification society requirements. Plan and organize relevant system design and design changes. Preparation of documentation as per classification requirements and handling comments them.

Subordinate Training

The responsibility also extends to Team management - Building the capability of the team by carrying regular training and supporting the recruitment process. Prepare Training Plan for Omani’s and Coordinate with training department for the proper execution. Implement buddy system to all discipline engineers to learn and know the impact & role of other design disciplines.

Motivate team members and contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of system, processes and practices taking into account leading practices, improvement of processes and productive outputs. Ensure a good working environment and team spirit.
