Position
CSS Lead Engineer – Compressor Systems
What You’ll Lead And Deliver
- Lead the engineering of compressor package control and safety systems including Compressor Control Systems (CCS), Anti‑Surge Controllers, process control, and shutdown logic.
- Coordinate with compressor OEMs and anti‑surge controller vendors (CCC, Hoerbiger, or equivalent) to manage control system package deliverables and technical interfaces.
- Define and manage integration of compressor package control and safety systems with the plant ICSS, including interfaces with Schneider Foxboro DCS and Triconex ESD Systems.
- Review and validate compressor package cause‑and‑effect matrices, protection logic, and emergency shutdown sequences.
- Lead or participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for compressor control packages and associated ICSS interfaces.
- Support SIL assessment and verification for compressor safety functions in accordance with IEC 61511; coordinate with the machinery safety engineer.
- Provide specialist control systems support during compressor package pre‑commissioning, commissioning, performance testing, and startup.
- Act as the project technical authority for compressor CSS engineering, resolving vendor technical queries and interdisciplinary interface issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation, Control Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- 13–15 years of experience in control and safety systems engineering for rotating equipment, specifically gas compressor packages, in the oil and gas or LNG sector.
- Strong knowledge of compressor control systems including anti‑surge control, load sharing, and compressor performance curves.
- Experience with compressor package control system integration with Schneider Foxboro DCS and Triconex ESD Systems.
- Knowledge of IEC 61511 functional safety as applied to rotating equipment safety functions.
- Experience with anti‑surge controller vendors (CCC, Hoerbiger, Woodward) is an advantage.
- Track record of leading FAT activities for compressor control packages and providing startup support on major EPC projects.
- Experience on Saudi Aramco or ADNOC facilities involving gas compression trains is highly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Deep knowledge of centrifugal and axial compressor control including anti‑surge logic, load sharing, speed control, and performance mapping.
- Experience defining compressor package control and safety system interfaces with Schneider Foxboro DCS and Triconex ESD Systems.
- Knowledge of API 670 machinery protection systems, vibration monitoring, and trip logic for compressor trains.
- Expertise in reviewing and validating cause‑and‑effect matrices, shutdown sequences, and protection logic for compressor packages.
- Experience leading compressor control system FAT activities and providing specialist support during package commissioning and performance testing.
Soft Skills
- Depth of knowledge to act as the go‑to expert for compressor control and safety system matters on the project.
- Ability to manage technical interfaces and deliverable quality with compressor OEMs and control system vendors.
- Clear technical communication with machinery, process, ICSS, and operations teams on compressor control system matters.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex compressor control and protection system issues during engineering and commissioning.
- Effective team player who coordinates across rotating equipment, ICSS, instrumentation, and commissioning disciplines.
