Job Description

Job Summary

The Assistant Engineering Manager is responsible for assisting in the management of the hotel's engineering operations, including maintenance, repairs, and energy management. This role involves ensuring the property’s mechanical systems and facilities are in excellent condition, collaborating with various departments to maintain high safety and operational standards, and overseeing the engineering team in the pursuit of seamless hotel operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to lead and motivate a team.

1. Assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing the maintenance and repair of all hotel facilities and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.

2. Coordinate and supervise routine inspections and preventative maintenance programs to ensure all systems are running efficiently and safely.

3. Assist in managing the engineering team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure a high level of performance and professionalism.

4. Schedule engineering staff and oversee daily assignments to ensure timely completion of tasks.

5. Participate in emergency response planning and be available on-call for after-hours emergencies, ensuring a prompt response to any issues that arise.

6. Support the Chief Engineer in implementing safety protocols and conducting regular safety drills and training for the engineering team.

7. Assist in preparing and managing the engineering department budget, monitoring expenses, and ensuring cost- effective operations.

8. Help in sourcing materials, equipment, and services, while maintaining relationships with vendors and service providers.

9. Ensure all engineering operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards.

10. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work, as well as compliance documentation for inspections and audits.

11. Assist in the coordination of special projects including renovations, upgrades, and installations, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.

12. Collaborate with other departments to minimize disruption to guest services during maintenance activities.

Qualifications Required

  • Diploma in Engineering, Building Maintenance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry, with at least 2 years of hands-on engineering or maintenance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, tools and maintenance management best practices.

Skills:

  • Excellent technical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to fix a variety of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the aptitude to interact with staff at all levels and liaise with contractors and vendors.
  • Proficient in using maintenance management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
